ACCSC Professional Development Conference
September 9 – 11, 2015 | Arlington, Virginia

ACCSC invites interested parties to submit a session proposalfor the 9th Annual Professional Development Conference. Please review the following information for instructions.

Target Audience
ACCSC is expecting approximately 250 representatives from the membership, including ACCSC-accredited school directors, managers, and presidents, as well as leaders from acrossthe higher education community.

Conference Focus
The 2015 PDC program will be designed around the input received from ACCSC-accredited institutions as well as through survey results from past PDC participants. Session Proposalsshould be focused in one of the following four main areas with a clear connection to the conference theme, “A Community of Partners in Education:”

Career and Student Services
Example session areas include:strategies to improve student retention and employability; best practices in admissions and recruitment; graduate placement; community partnerships and service learning; employee and employer relations; institutional partnerships; implementing an effective employment verification program.

Faculty and Staff Development
Example session areas include: instructional technologies in the classroom; faculty development beyond classroom management; teaching tools; online educational technology; leadership training; institutional alignment and accountability.

Trends and Innovations
Example session areas include: competency based learning pilot programs; multi-generational workforce; understanding younger student populations; developing and implementing new programs in a changing regulatory environment.

ACCSC Standards as Best Practices
Example session areas include:Institutional Assessment and Improvement Planning; Program Advisory Committees; implementing100% online and hybrid distance education programs; Learning Resource Systems; common challenges for ACCSC-accredited institutions; a day in the life of an ACCSC volunteer; small school success strategies.

Session Formats
All educational sessions are 75 minutes in length. ACCSC encourages all session proposals to consider a presentation format that will engage conference participants and deliver a meaningful learning experience with tangible takeaways. Example formats that ACCSC will look for when selecting presentations include (but certainly are not limited to):

Demonstration

Presenters deliver a session providing hands-on experience through a clear, step-by-step explanation of the concept and a comparison to other ideas, its strengths and weaknesses, and how the concept can best be applied. Session provides a new method that can be used in participants’ daily practice.

Flexible Audience

Presenters provide participants with team activities or role playing. Session may require change of room setup to convey presentation message. Presenter will have 10 minutes before and after session to reset space.

Panel

Two or more presenters plus a moderator present a discussion-oriented format with the panelists responding to each other and the audience throughout the session.

Discussion

Presenter(s) share concepts and ideas via an oral presentation with learning aids and allow sufficient time for Q&A with participants throughout.

Session proposals should address the delivery format to be used for the presentation. Allbreakout rooms will be equipped with a projector, screen, laptop, flipchart, and internet access for the presenter only; internet will not be provided for conference participants.Additional audio and visual aids requested will require advance approval.

Session Proposal Criteria

  • Session focuses on one of thefour topical areas (see page1) in career education with a clear connection to improving educational opportunities for students;
  • Session topic is important and/or timely with clear discussion of the goals and content of the presentation;
  • Session is designed to be for intermediate to advanced participants, while also appealing to beginners;
  • Session will be presented in an engaging manner facilitating the desired learning outcome and provides take-aways for participants to implement at their own campuses;
  • Session does not promote a company, service, or product.

All Session Proposals are due via e-mail to Michelle Ragnetti, Conference and Events Coordinator, by Thursday, April 30, 2015.

Individuals that submit a session proposal will be notifiedby May 29, 2015. Selected presenters must be available to present at the designated session time assignedby ACCSC on either September 10 or 11, 2015.

Selected PDC presenters[1] will be provided with:

  • Roundtrip travel to and from Arlington, Virginia and one (1) night hotel accommodations at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View, 2015 PDC host hotel;
  • Complimentary registration to all conference activities (Pre-Conference Workshops not included).
