National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) Constitution
Preamble
We the Hamilton High School, National Honor Society of Dance Arts, in order to promote and honor outstanding dance achievement, outstanding academic achievement, and to encourage young dance artists to be leaders in their community do create this club.
Name
The name of this club shall be “National Honor Society for Dance Arts, (NHSDA)”
Article I
Eligibility
Student membership in the NHSDA is awarded on the basis of points earned for meritorious work in dance that meet the honor society’s general guidelines and overall/dance grade point average. In addition, the prospective member’s demonstration of collaborative teamwork, motivation, and participation in the many aspects of dance (choreography, performance, teaching, production, etc.) is a factor in the determination of eligibility for membership.
The sponsor of NHSDA is responsible for determining when each student has met the criteria for becoming an official member of the chapter. These criteria may be determined by the needs of each individual situation as they relate to the NHSDA guidelines.
All students inducted into NHSDA are eligible for nomination, by the Chapter Sponsor, to receive the NDEO Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award.
Article II
Membership Benefits
Upon induction, all members receive a certificate of membership. Members can wear the NHSDA honor cord and honor gold pin during graduation ceremonies. In addition, members may participate in special events or receive mailings generated by the state chapters. Inducted students are encouraged to include their membership in scholarship packets and/or resumes for college or dance employment.
Article III
Community Service
In order to encourage well-rounded dance artists, and to create leaders in their community members of NHSDA are expected to complete community service as a requirement for active membership in NHSDA.
Article IV
Executive Board, Officers, Election Process and Meetings
The Executive Board shall consist of the sponsoring teacher and four officers. The Executive Board shall be the governing body of the club. The officers of the club shall be President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Nominations will come from members of NHSDA, and members will vote these nominees on with a simple majority vote. Students in the process of meeting the requirements may attend general meetings of the club. Members of NHSDA are required to attend club meetings.
Officers’ Duties:
President:Conducts all meetings of the club.
Vice President:Duties of the President if he/she is absent, general assistance in the duties of the President, and uphold rule and order during all sessions of the club.
Secretary:Record the meetings and take attendance of each meeting.
Treasurer:Deposit money from fundraisers and process all paperwork for payment of vendors.
Executive Board:Manage all applications (points, community service hours, etc.) of all members and prospective members.
Article V
Conduct
All students will abide by school and NHSDA rules. Members will conduct themselves in a mature and orderly manor appropriately expected from a student of Hamilton High School. Any officer that has not fulfilled their duties in office may be removed from office by 2/3 votes of the members present with approval of the sponsoring teacher. Members may be removed from the club depending on their behavior in regards to Hamilton’s discipline procedures. The sponsor will have the right to remove members from officer positions based on the results of due process, without a club membership vote.
Article VI
Amendments
This constitution may be amended by two-thirds vote of the NHSDA members present at a general meeting, provided that proposed amendment meets with the approval of the Executive Board, and any amendment affecting any part of the school or student body, must be cleared by the Executive Board and Student Council.
