Franklin Flyer
Hallway Expectations
Respect Myself / Respect Others / Respect My School-Face forward in line
-Follow directions of the leader / -Keep hands and feet to myself
-Walk down each step
-Place loose items in the Lost and Found
-Walk quietly (use a voice level of 0 or 1) / -Keep hands and feet off walls
-Keep items in a closed locker
- Cut apart the attached strips of paper and place in something from which students will choose (bag, hat, box, bucket).
- Take students to a hallway to review the expectations. You may want a hallway that has some privacy as these examples could be loud.
- Review Ben Franklin’s school wide expectations with students:
- Respect Myself
- Respect Others
- Respect My School
- With the following strips of paper in the hat, each student takes a turn pulling one piece out of the hat, acting it out or reading it out loud to the class.
- Ask students if there were any specific problem behaviors with the performance. As they list problem behaviors, ask if they can identify if it affects themselves, others, or our school (most behaviors will affect more than one).
- Further discussion topics could include disrupting other classrooms (test-taking), safety (wet floors, little children coming around corners), missing items (homework, books, hats, gloves).
- Ask a group of students to model a good example of walking in the hallway. Be sure to praise specific correct behaviors and the effort it took to do it, using the words, “I noticed….” Or “You really…”. Discuss using a voice level of 0 or 1 in the hallway.
- Practice walking down the hallway with the class, pointing out correct examples of following the rules (walking quietly, keeping hands to themselves, smiling and waving instead of shouting across the hallway to friends, etc.). ***Be sure to give plenty of positive praise for correct answers and demonstrations. PBIS is all about positive reinforcement. ***
