Hallett Cove Children’s Centre Inc – Policy on Clothing
The centre consults with families about their child’s individual needs and are aware of the different values and parenting beliefs cultural or otherwise associated with children’s clothing and footwear.
The centre aims to ensure children have comfortable and appropriate clothing throughout the day
Casual practical comfortable
The centre suggests that you send your child in clothing that is comfortable easy to remove and that they can get dirty in.
We encourage the children to be independent and some clothes such as overalls and jeans with buttons and a fly can be difficult for children to get on and off (especially if in a hurry).
Parents are encouraged to dress babies in clothing that is comfortable and where babies are able to freely learn and develop and engage in activities, such as a dress when crawling out in the garden would not be comfortable for the child and therefore may prevent them in exploration.
Art and Craft
To protect your child’s clothing the centre will provide an art smock for your child to participate painting activities.
Winter
Parents are asked to provide warm jackets and hats so the children can play outside on cool days.
The centre has some spare clothing and hats that can be used if the child does not have a warm jacket. Centre to wash after use.
Summer
Sleeveless or singlet tops and midriff tops are not suitable.
Any child with bare shoulders will put on a tee shirt to play outside.
Hats
A proper fitting wide brimmed legionnaire style hat or bucket hat with a broad brim, which will protect the face and the back of the neck.
The centre has a supply of spare legionnaire hats for the children to use. These are washed on a regular basis.
Footwear
Safe comfortable footwear that fits well that will adequately protect the feet. We suggest sandals or trainers not thongs. Also, parents to be mindful that children are learning how to put on and take off shoes, so appropriate footwear as in Velcro may assist your child
The children are discouraged from playing outside without their shoes on.
Sleep and Rest Time
For babies outer clothing will be removed, so they do not become overheated.
Children who sleep or rest are encouraged to remove any hooded tops or jumpers.
Clothing to be put in their bag ready for them to redress after sleep or rest time.
Clothing for toileting
Parents to dress child in clothes that is easy for them to remove.
Spare clothing to be supplied by parents in case of accidents during day.
Wet or soiled clothing will be rinsed out and put in a bag ready for parent to collect at end of the day.
Spare clothes
Parents are asked to provide a spare set of clothes for the children.
If toilet training, then more clothing is required.
For babies at least two spare sets of clothes would be required.
The centre has a supply of spare clothing if necessary. Parents are asked to wash and return any clothing to the centre as soon as possible.
Lost property
Parents are encouraged to put name tags in their child’s clothing to minimise the risk of losing items.
Staff will endeavour to return items of clothing to the family.
Lost property box in each room for parents to check for items.
Cleaning/Handling/Storage
There may be the necessity to wash a child’s clothing at the centre. Staff will endeavour to return items to the appropriate family quickly as possible.
If items of clothing are soiled, staff will put into a plastic bag and place either in or tied on to the child’s bag. When the parent collects the child they will be informed of the items in the bag.
