Jennifer Moffitt has been actively involved in science and alternative medicine for over 2 decades. She has a BS in Environmental Toxicology from UC Davis, after which she worked as a research scientist for many years in analytical toxicology. There she developed numerous assays for use in veterinary toxicology, many of which later were used statewide.
Her work in western science was coupled with a deep interest in alternative medicine. After years studying vibration healing modalities such as reiki, therapeutic massage, homeopathy, and working with teachers such as Barbara Brennan and Dr. Roslyn Bruyere, she returned to pursue a graduate work in Oriental Medicine at the Pacific College of Oriental medicine (NY and San Diego campuses), where she graduated summa cum laude.
She is Board Certified nationally in Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology, and has additional training in Japanese acupuncture and advanced training in Dr. Richard Tan’s Balance methods.
She co-founded the West Coast Center for Integrative Medicine in 2003 with the vision of truly integrating patient care. The Center’s focus is Integrative Medicine, an approach that combines the best of eastern and western science to treat the whole patient. With extensive training in western medicine and science, the clinicians at the Center work in conjunction with physicians and physical therapists for a more complete approach to pain and disease.
The Center feels that integrative disease management should be a right, not a privilege, with hopes to incorporate as a non-profit, so that alternative medicine is available to all who cannot afford it.
Jennifer is actively involved in teaching basic concepts of eastern medicine to the general public and physicians. In addition to managing a busy practice, she teaches FPM 234: Intro to Oriental Medicine at the UCSD School of Medicine, where she is one of the first ever acupuncturists to hold a non-salaried faculty appointment. She writes and lectures for area health organizations, The Pulse of Oriental Medicine, and WCCIM’s website on topics in integrative medicine, pediatrics, and nutrition.
Outside of the clinic, she spends as much times riding and working with horses as her schedule permits. She is also active in the SD Tennis federation, giving her ample opportunity to treat sports injuries, usually her own!
