Information for potential performers and their parents

Important Details

This Production of Hairspray is to be presented by In The Wings Productions in association with The Orchard Theatre. The performances will take place at The Orchard Theatre on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th April 2015.Rehearsals will take place weekly on Sundays from 10-1pm, primarily at The ITW Productions Studios in Bexley but some rehearsals will take place at The Orchard Theatre.

(Further details and a rehearsal schedule will be given to successful performers).

Rehearsal dates are as follows:-

Term 1 –Sunday 28th September until 7th December(10Weeks)

Term 2 – 25th January – 12thApril (10 weeks not including Easter weekend)

Production week rehearsals from Monday 13thApril during the daytime and throughout the week until the first performance on Friday 17th April.

As for Grease last year, as we expect this production to be very popular, and we will again be casting TWO COMPLETE “HAIRSPRAY COMPANIES”!!The JUNIOR CAST will consist of children aged between 8 and 13 years old and will perform at 10:30am and 2:30pm on Saturday 18th April 2015. (Two performances in total).

The SENIOR CAST will consist of children aged between 14 and 19 years old and will perform at the 7:30pm on Friday 17thand 7:30pm on Saturday 18th April 2015(Two performances in total).

Financial Outlay

Please note that there will be a £15 Rehearsal Fee for every rehearsal session that each performer attends, this must be settled at the beginning of each rehearsal session. No payment No rehearsal! Performers may be asked to stay longer on many occasions, but there will be no extra charge. Specific call times will be given at each rehearsal, but no Sunday rehearsals should run beyond 6pm . We would prefer cash please for payment. Special rates apply to siblings who will receive a 10% discount and who will be charged £13.50 each per rehearsal. Those wishing to pay for each ten week term will be charged £145 per term (£130.50 for siblings). The total financial outlay for this project will be a maximum of £375 (£336 siblings).This includes an additional fee of £75 per person which will be payable for production week (13-16th April).No fees are due for auditions or for the performances.Cheques are to be made payable to In The Wings Productions. Please note that there will be no refunds for any missed rehearsals.

Commitment and Absence

It is important that performers commit fully to the rehearsals, please let us

know IN WRITING if you have a previously booked commitment and are unable to attend a Sunday rehearsal. If you are ill please contact us on 07831 559477 to book out of the rehearsal. Please do NOT take on any other commitments on Sundays during the process of this production - if you are successfully cast into the show, you will be required to attend every week! Performers who miss more than three consecutive rehearsals will be asked to withdraw from the process.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working and dedicated young people to get involved in this amazing and highly prestigious project, it will be great fun but it will also be a big commitment – not for the faint hearted!

The Audition Day and Process

The audition will consist of three workshops including singing, dancing and acting. Please have ready a short song to sing unaccompanied if you would like to audition for a Principal role. After the auditions, everyone will receive either a call, letter or email informing them of the outcome of the audition. If you are unable to commit to this project fully please do not waste your time or ours by auditioning, but if you are raring to get involved and have a great day we can’t wait to meet you!!

On audition day we will be seeing children aged 8-13years for our Junior Cast of the show at 9am.Parents should collect their child at 12pm, but note that some people will be asked to return for solo singing auditions from 4pm. The Senior Cast will be auditioned from 12.30pm and should be collected at 3.30pm unless requested to stay for solo singing at 4pm.

We are looking for talented youngsters of all ages, girls and boys. Please note all performers MUST be 8 years of age and under 19 years of age by 1stMay 2015.

What will it mean to become part of the Hairspray cast?

If you do become part of the Hairspray Junior or Senior Company, there are other exciting opportunities to enjoy – there will be group trips to suitable Orchard Theatre productions at very reduced rates.

There may be other audition opportunities for particularly talented young people– previous ITW performers have appeared in the numerous ITW professional tours, musicals and pantomimes.There will be a Christmas concert and party on Sunday 7thDecember for both Hairspray Casts to perform for family and friends followed by ourannual Christmas party!
