House Walls Constructed in 3 Hours!
San Diego, Calif. June 6, 2003- Haener Block claims the world’s record for building masonry house walls. The exterior and interior block walls for a two bedroom, one bath, 637 square-foot house were laid in three hours by five unskilled workers at Napa, California on June 3, 2003.
The foundation had been poured the day before. The time did not include the one hour needed to drop the steel reinforcing bars and to pump grout in the walls. The window, doors and the roof truss were installed the next day. Electrical and plumbing systems were not installed.
Just for fun, two unskilled persons, Wesley Fadely and Larry Bouchard, managers at Haener Block, laying block for the first time, then built an outdoor barbeque stand in ten minutes. Bouchard was clocked in laying 10 blocks in one minute, which is about ten times faster than mortared blocks can be laid. According to tests by the National Concrete Masonry Association, the Haener block is ten times stronger in shear strength than a mortared block since the weakest part of the structure is the mortar.
Robert Shepersky, a Napa general contractor, carried out this demonstration to illustrate the lowest cost housing system in the world, the mortarless, interlocking, self-aligning block system invented by Dr. Juan Haener, a former rocket scientist. The blocks were made by Mission Concrete Products of San Jose.
The Haener block is licensed in 20 countries, The Mexican licensee plans to build 17,000 houses in Puebla, Mexico. Haener also has an insulated block and, for withstanding hurricanes and earthquakes, a footer block and interlocking pilaster, as shown on page 3.
