GYM USE POLICY

  1. GENERAL

The Marion United Methodist Church Hazel Carder Gym (hereafter Gym) is an extension of the mission of the UnitedMethodistChurch, which is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” It is with this responsibility in mind that the following policies and guidelines have been adopted. Where a literal and strict interpretation of this policy would result in hardship or injustice, the Pastor or his/her designee has discretion to use his/her best judgment to accomplish the goals of this policy.

The MarionUnitedMethodistChurch has also adopted a Wedding Policy and General Building Use Policy. These three (3) policies should be read together when applicable. In the event there is any inconsistency in the policies, the more specific policy shall govern. In the event there is a conflict between this policy and the Wedding Policy, the Wedding Policy shall govern.

  1. GYM USE PRIORITY
  1. In view of the fact that the Gym is considered an important part of the MarionUnitedMethodistChurch’s mission and outreach into the community, the Gym is available for use by both Members and Non-Members. MarionUnitedMethodistChurch activities have first priority. Members of the Church will be given a second priority with nonmembers and outside organizations having a third (3rd) priority.
  2. The Gym will not be available for use on Sunday mornings other than by the church itself. Gym usage is subject to availability according to the church’s calendar and approval from the Recreation Director and payment of applicable fees.
  1. GYM RESERVATIONS
  1. To reserve the Gym you should contact the Recreation Director, Gary Wehrum, complete the Gym Reservation Agreement and pay any applicable fees. You may contact the Recreation Director by email at .
  2. Rental Availability. The Gym is available for rental (excluding holidays) at all times except for the following:

1. Sundays;

2. Religious Holidays;

3. Week of Annual Turkey Dinner; and

4. Week of Annual Hullaballoo.

  1. If the Gym is being reserved for use in conjunction with a Wedding for a reception or rehearsal dinner, the forms filled out to reserve the Church for the wedding is all that is required and no separate Gym reservation form is required.
  1. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
  1. Smoking is prohibited within the church buildings and on the grounds of the church.
  2. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited anywhere on the property of the MarionUnitedMethodistChurch.
  3. All use must be confined to the areas requested and approved on the Gym Reservation Agreement.
  4. Applicants must agree to indemnify the Church for any and all damages caused during the event other than normal wear and tear.
  5. The church will not be responsible for losses of personal property or injuries suffered by individuals or groups occurring during the use of the Gym.
  6. For the safety of all children, there should be no running or climbing, unless a normal and customary part of the activity.
  7. Everything used during an event/meeting (chairs, tables, dishes etc.) must be cleaned and/or returned to their original state and location.
  8. There must be a minimum of one adult for every seven (7) children present to provide supervision for any children present. It is the responsibility of any adults present to make certain that children remain in the Gym. The rest of the Church buildings are considered off-limits.
  9. No hard soled shoes, shoes with spiked heels or any other footwear that leaves marks on the Gym floor or damages the Gym floor are permitted to be worn.
  10. The MarionUnitedMethodistChurch reserves the right to refuse Gym usage to anyone for any reason at its discretion.
  11. No decorations or the application of materials to the walls, ceiling or floor which will mar, deface or damage these surfaces may be used. Helium balloons may not be used in the Gym.
  12. No chewing gum is allowed in the Gym.
  13. The Director of Recreation or Pastor have the discretion to approve or reject all activities and scheduling of those activities.
  14. In the event the use of the Gym floor requires the use of tables on the playing surface, mats must be placed over the floor.
  15. The wood floor of the Gym must be dust-mopped before and after use.
  16. If any liquid is spilled it must be cleaned immediately.
  17. Set-up and basic cleanup is the responsibility of the user of the Gym. Arrangements for tables, chairs, and any other needed items must be made at the time the Gym is reserved. Basic clean up includes sweeping the area of the Gym used for the activity and disposing of trash into the provided garbage containers.
  18. Any violation of these rules, regulations and conditions may result in the immediate termination of the right to use the Gym.
  1. LIABILITY

The use of the Gym and any equipment will be at the risk of the participant. MarionUnitedMethodistChurchdoes not assume liability or responsibility for any injury to any user of the Gym. The MarionUnitedMethodistChurch does not make any express or implied warranty of the premises, the equipment or fixtures.

  1. GYM USAGE FEES

The Fees as reflected on the Schedule of Fees for Gym Use is based on the relationship between the User and the MarionUnitedMethodistChurch. There is one schedule of Fees for Members and another schedule for Non-Members. A Member is defined as someone who is listed as a Member on the Rolls of the MarionUnitedMethodistChurch for at least six (6) months prior to completing the Gym Reservation Agreement. Because of the higher cost for up-keep of the Gym floor and related facilities and the utility cost even Members are charged for their use of the Facility.
