TASK 2: Transport and Storage

Your objectives are:

1.Secure a storage solution in Nakhon (NK) and in Negeri (NG).

2.Plan the transport of tents, family kits and a two weeks stock of rice to be prepositioned and readied for the first round of distributions in Nakhon (NK) and in Negeri (NG).

Coordination details:

  • The vessel transporting the first shipment of rice is scheduled to arrive in Meo in the next few days. The cargo to NK and NG will be packed in Meo and loaded onto trucks by the contracted transporter.
  • Two weeks of rice ration should be stored in each location (NK and NG).
  • Only 5000 tents are ready to be dispatched from Meo. These 5000 tents will have shared between NK and NG and the delivery will have to be to be split in direct proportion to the population figures in NK and NG. More tents have been ordered and will be sent at a later date.
  • The first 10,000 family kits have all been purchased in Westland and will be delivered in NK when the storage structures are. The (kits) balance needed has already been ordered and will be sent at a later date. The amount of kits allocated for NG will have to be transported from NK to NG by the awarded transporter and you must include that specific transport leg in your plan. The first 10,000 kits will not cover the whole need for the Southwest and Southern regions so you will have to split the available 10,000 kits in direct proportion to the population figures in NK and NG.

Note that the cargo to Negeri (NG) should be transshipped in Nakhon (NK) as the state of the road between Nakhon to Negeri (NG) limits the access to 10 MT trucks only.

Field warehousing arrangements:

There are no suitable warehouses in NK and NG. In order to store the goods, you are presently using governmental office structures but you will have to use standard Mobile Storage Units (MSUs - 24m x 10m) in order to augment capacity.

Space to set temporary logistics hubs is available in NK and NG but you will have to define the storage dimensions. You can stack rice up to 3 m high and tents and family kits up to 2 meters high on 70% of the ground surfaces.

Question 1:

How many tents and family kits will you store in NK and NG?

Question 2:

Figure out the number of MSU’s required for storage at NK and NG

Question 3:

Plan the transport for all supplies:

2.a. From Meo to Nakhon, using 50 x 40MT trucks

2.b. From Nakhon to Negeri, using 60 x 10 MT trucks

Please refer to the data below from the Handout 4 (Mewong Exercise - Scenario details)

Number available / Capacity / Volume
Feeder trucks / 60 / 10MT / 40 CBM
Highway trucks / 50 / 40MT / 120 CBM
