TEAMGlobal is an Independent Educational Foundation. TEAMGlobal’svision

Also, our moderatorsKaren Bonthrone and Kevin McSharry

Karengained a degree in Chemistry at Edinburgh University followed

by a PhD at Cambridge University. She then pursued a career in scientific

researchwith positions at Bristol and Birmingham Universities. In her academic

positions, she enjoyed the teaching work so undertook a PGCE at Birmingham.

Since her training,she has taught in UK state schools and a variety of

International schools in Spain, USAand Indonesia teaching primarily physics

and chemistry. On returning to the UK, Karen completed an MA in Education

at UCL and she is currently the HS Assistant Principal at the

American School in London,where she also teaches AP Psychology.

Kevin is a Member of TEAMGlobal, the organisation that sponsors and

enables these conferences at our school. Previously Headteacher of St. James’

Catholic School Colindale in London, now retired. He has influence with contacts

across a wide range of sectors, most recently securing Lord Kinnock for the

House of Lords Post Brexit debate in July2016. One of his key objectives for

TEAMGlobal is specifically focussed on developing conferences to broaden

global learning and active citizenship within schools and universities

in the UK and supporting TEAMGlobal’s study tours within differing

European territories.

John has an MA in International Relations from the University of Southern

California,first teaching in Iowa and then as teacher of history and economics at

TheAmerican School in London. He is now part of the outreach programme of the

American School, where he visits other schools to talk about American history

& politics. He is also anexecutive member of TeamGlobal.

Alex Ntung

Head of Education, Migrant Help UK

Alex was born into a family of cattle-herders

in South Kivu, a province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Growing up he survived extreme poverty, hardship and violence on

a terrifying scale and lost many membersof

his family. His hunger for education took him

to a school in Uvira. Countless incidents

of xenophobia and violence were directed at

him as a member of the minority Banyamulenge ethnic group (also

sometimes known as ‘Tutsi Congolese’) in the DRC. He later had to flee to Rwandawhere he witnessed the 1994 genocide and subsequent violence fuelledby Tutsi and Hutu ethnicity. He became involved in humanitarian

workfor UN related NGOs, including co-ordinating an orphanage for

childrenwho survived genocide. He came to the UK and underwent a

stringent asylum process but later he gained an MA in Anthropology of Conflict, Violence and Conciliation at the University of Sussex. Alex

currently headsthe education department for a UK based national NGO, Migrant Help, UK. He is a trainer, speaker and analyst (international affairs

and migration). Alex is the author of "Not My Worst Day"​and co-author

of "Education in A Diverse UK". He is a university guest lecturer with an honest insight into issues of war and human security, cultural insensitivity

and conflict resolution. Alex is involved in initiatives to promote peace and political mediation work for civil society organisations, and is a professional member of the UK Expert Witness Institute (EWI), Mind Professionals and the Experts Immigration Network.

Mr Alp Mehmet MVO

Alp was born in Cyprus and came to the UK in 1956, growing up and

attending school in East London. He is a former British diplomat.

A first generation migrant, Alp has served as Ambassadorto Iceland

and served in Nigeria, Romania and Germany.

HisLondon jobs have included private secretary to Ministers, FCO Parliamentary Clerk and Asia Spokesman. Before the FCO, Alp spent

9 years as an Immigration Officerand 4 years in the post of Visa

Officer in Nigeria.

Since retiringin 2008 he has worked in both the private and public

sectors. He is currently Vice-chairof Migration Watch UK,a position

he has held since 2010. He is also Chair of Governors at Parmiter's

School and on the board of the FCO Association. Alp regularly speaks

and writes about migration and community relations.

AnujaPrashar

Anujaran her own business in South London for 16 years and

then worked at the Home Office as Staff Officer to the Director

General for 4 years.She has been lecturing in HigherEducation

for the past 10 years on International Business, Emerging Economies, Global Management, Globalization, Political Identity & Nationalism,

and Cross Cultural Communication.She has worked closely with

several women’s groups to campaign to eradicate domestic violence

and abuse against women.

Anuja has a strong record of political campaigning in London,

having been a candidate at council, parliamentary, and European level.Her focus is to explore the possible opportunities offered

through mechanisms of Corporate Social Responsibility, to ensure

the UK is best prepared for future global challenges by ensuring

business sustainability, greater social mobilityand reducing

inequality.

MarkellaPapadouli

Legal Project Manager, AIRE Centre.

Markella studied Lawat the University of Athensand holds a

Master of Arts degree from theUniversity of Warwick on

International Relationsand Human Rights and an LLM in Maritime

Lawfrom the University of Southampton. She further holds a

Diploma in Grants Managementand has completed the Odysseus

Network Summer Schoolin European Law and Policy on Immigration

and Asylum.Markella is a Registered European Lawyer (Greek

qualified) anda memberof the AIRE Centre strategic litigation team focusingon asylum and trafficking cases. Sheis also a Lecturer at

London South Bank Universityon European Asylum Law and Policy

and International Refugee Law.

As Legal Project Manager, Markella manages the Esmee Fairburn

funded Trafficking project, focusingon the provision offree legal

advice and representationto victims of trafficking.

Prior to joining the AIRE Centre, Markella was the National Expert

on Greece for the European Database on Asylum Law in 2013and

has also worked for the European Council on Refugees and Exiles,

the International Rescue Committee and UNHCR Greece. Markella

speaks fluent Greek, English, French and Spanish as well as basic

German.
