Job Title:Assistant Stewardship Adviser

Location:Currently: The Education Centre, The Cathedral, Stag Hill, Guildford.
We are seeking to move offices in the near future – probably to a site about one mile north of our current office.

Responsible to:Stewardship Adviser

Hours21 hours a week worked over at least 3 days. This will include a core time of 9-4 Tues & Wed.

Faith Under the Equality Act 2010, part 1, schedule 9, this role carries an occupational requirement for the person employed to be a Christian.

Key Tasks:

Working with and providing assistancetothe Diocesan Stewardship Adviser to ensure that the Diocese of Guildford offers the best possible support to parishes in the following areas:

  • The principles and practice of Christian Stewardship
  • Planned giving
  • Gift Aid
  • Funding for capital and other missional projects
  • Wills and Legacies

Main professional contacts:

Internally: Deputy Diocesan Secretary, Parish Support Officer, DAC Secretary, PDE Team,
CET Parish & Community Engagement Adviser.

Diocesan-wide: Parish Treasurers, Stewardship Promoters, Gift Aid Secretaries, Incumbents & Churchwardens

Beyond the Diocese: National Stewardship Adviser, National Legacies & Funding Officer, other Regional Stewardship Advisers, Church House Statistics Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Stewardship Statistics

To collate and analyse a range stewardship statistics to support the work of the Diocesan Stewardship Adviser in the areas listed under key tasks, producing reports in varied formats and proactively commenting/offering conclusions on the statistics.

  1. Parish Giving Scheme

To manage and administer the local delivery of the Parish Giving(direct debit)Scheme.

  1. Funding Administration

To have oversight and manage information flow of external funding opportunities for parishes across the diocese. To identify and research new funding streams where appropriate. To assist in the delivery of funding training where necessary.Monitor

how parish led projects are progressing.

  1. Ongoing, regular support for Stewardship areas to include:
  • To work with the Stewardship Adviser on communicating the range of stewardship support, advice and resources available through email, print, website and any other appropriate media; working with the Adviser on the creation of new resources as needed.
  • To provide a friendly and professional response to callers, in person, by email and on the telephone.
  • To undertake any research tasks requested by the Diocesan Stewardship Adviser.
  • To deal appropriately with day-to-day enquiries and correspondence, including on behalf of the Stewardship Adviser when she is absent.
  • To create and maintain electronic and paper records and systems for stewardship areas, ensuring confidentiality and security of documents and information.
  • To work with the PDE Team administrators in planning, organizing and preparing material for courses, conferences and training events for stewardship areas, attending events to assist as necessary.
  • To collaborate closely with the Parish Support Officer in the Administration Team to ensure co-ordinated engagement with Parishes.
  • To contribute to decision-making and worship life as a full member of the PDE team.
  • To play a key role in our aim of coordinating well with other diocesan teams.
  1. Diocesan Funds Administration

To provide administration for two funds currently within the remit of the PDE team: the Diocesan Growth Fund and the Church Maintenance Grant Fund. As a new, larger growth fund is launched, this part of the role may change or be moved elsewhere.

  • Positive parish feedback on support given in areas of Parish Giving Scheme administration, funding and communication.
