Guild of Natural Science Illustrators – New England Chapter September 11, 2015

September 11, 2015 Minutes

In attendance: Tricia Cassady, Tony Gerardi, Nancy Minnigerode, Laurie Bebick, Wendy Chadbourne, Frances Topping

Discussed member activities; Tricia is giving private art lessons to adults and children

Laurie is teaching at Audubon Art and Nature Camp and Frances is giving a workshop for Master Gardeners at URI

Wendy and Insil traveled together to the GNSI conference in Pennsylvania and enjoyed many great presentations and learned a great deal.

We discussed out upcoming exhibit at Bridgewater State and noted that Frances is the only member who has submitted so far. Encourage other artists to submit; we need more entries!

Nov. 14 is the reception date (noon to 3pm), BSU to provide refreshments and entertainment will be provided by “Felix and the Jazz Cats”. Estimating attendance at 30 people.

They would like us to have a demonstration day sometime during the exhibit. Wendy will do a carbon dust demo, Laurie colored pencils, and Frances watercolor. Others would be encouraged to contribute.

Members may drop off art work for the exhibit at the Nature Lab on Oct 10 during the Barry Van Dusen workshop.

The workshop is filling fast, so members should get applications in ASAP. (See attached form.)

The holiday party is scheduled for Dec. 12. Yankee swap, food and portfolio share and bring unwanted supplies, books, etc. Also discussed having a speaker at the party, recipe swap, edible nature art, round robin drawing, or painting exchange.

Tricia has been president for 3 years and would like some one to take over next year. Wendy is considering.

We need to find ways to bring in new, active members; perhaps with speakers, demos, other presentations. Suggested having meetings at other locations. Be thinking about venues for next exhibition.

Frances shared her wonderful travel sketchbooks with us from her recent trip to Ireland. Delightful!
