Guidelines for Schumacher Farm Park’s
Haunted Prairie Hayride

  • Who we are: Schumacher Farm Park is a historic farm park museum. Therefore, our Halloween features crafts and activities in the barn and other buildings. We try to keep our games and crafts on the old-fashioned side. Hence, we avoid plastic masks and plastic of any kind.
  • Who is our audience: Halloween at the Farm caters to young children between preschool and 4th grade. For this reason, we provide a gently scary experience for kids and their families. There are plenty of other venues that provide bone-chilling scares. That is not us.
  • What the park looks like: Our hayride winds around a beautiful tall grass prairie. You will be stationed in openings and along the path. Some people like to just stand in the grasses and then step out when the wagon approaches. Others prefer to stay together and create a scene. There is room for both.
  • DRESS FOR THE WEATHER: Plan on it being cold. Remember 40 degree weather is fine if you’re doing something, but it can be cold if you’re outside for 3-4 hours. Dress accordingly. Please wear long underwear under your costumes, caps on your heads, gloves, coats, sweaters, scarves…whatever it takes. Buddy up with others and you can take turns warming up.
  • What to bring: Flashlights are useful to shine a light on your face. Otherwise, the people in the wagon may not see you. Skulls, fake body parts, pitch forks, axes, bones, etc. that will add to your scene.
  • What NOT to bring:No chainsaws or modern-looking weapons. Also leave the plastic masks at home and opt for face painting instead.
  • What do to: Have fun. Lots of fun acting like zombies or whatever you want to be.
  • What not to do: Absolutely no touching the hay ride participants or the wagons. You can get close, but do not touch. This is for your safety and for the safety of adults and children riding in the wagon.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Let’s show the community what a great time this is!
