Guide to General Gymnastics Levels Competition.

The aim of General Gymnastics Competitions is to provide positive and friendly competitive opportunities for recreational gymnasts in the East Region. In order to do this, it’s important that there is a level playing field. We do this by following the technical rules that are part of a coaches training, making sure that gymnasts are prepared and entered at a level appropriate to their abilities and that at the events, clubs, coaches and committee members work together to create a positive, fun experience for our gymnasts.

Level 1-3 gymnasts must train no more than 4 hours per week and Level 4 & 5 gymnasts no more than 6 hours per week at any gymnastics discipline combined.

General Competition Group 2 and Boys - Training 2 hours per week

This group of gymnasts will work towards Level 1 and 2 rules. Most gymnasts will start at Level 1 but will be dependent on their individual skill level as well as their ability to perform and remember routines. They are expected to compete on at least 2 pieces out of 4 apparatus.

General Competition Group 1 - Training 4 hours per week

This group of gymnasts will work towards Level 3, 4 and 5 rules. They would have usually competed at Level 1 or 2 previously except in some cases. They are expected to compete at least 3 pieces out of 4 apparatus.

General Competition Advanced - Training 4 hours for Level 4 and 5

This group is designed for older gymnasts working towards Level 3-5. They must compete on at least 3 out of 4 apparatus.

Boys Competition Group 1 - Training 2 hours per week

Gymnasts in this group will work at Level 1 and above

If a gymnast is not able to meet the requirements which have been set for the particular group, the gymnast will be asked to change to a more appropriate group in which they can improve and progress at a level that is suited to them.Gymnasts who have previously trained and competedathigherlevelsandgreateramountsoftraininghoursmustwait2yearsbeforeentering General Gymnastics events.

A gymnast will only be moved up a Level if they have either medalled at most pieces entered or can do well at the level higher on the required amount of apparatus needed at the discretion of the coach. A gymnast may compete at the same level as previous years until a higher level is attainable.

It is compulsory for all gymnasts entering the GG Competition on behalf of North Walsham Gymnastics Club to wear the Club Leotard/ (Boys) Unitard and shorts. Gymnasts in the Advanced GG Competition group may also wear matching shorts. They must arrive in plain black or adidas leggings (girls) and black jogging bottoms (boys) as well as a club t shirt or hoody. The gymnasts hair style must be decided by the Head Coach and gymnasts will have to arrange their own hairdresser if needed. All fees for the competition will be paid for by the due date and any late entrants may be accepted at twice the entry fee. All payment will be by BACs with the gymnasts individual code and GGCOMP.

Parents must not approach a judge, coach or gymnast during competition.
