Kere. Ewa. Agwa. Wake.Beans
When it was my turn, I insisted that I wanted beans and little rice around it. They were like
''Why?''
"Deliver to me that which I have requested'' I maintained.
These days, I see some food with value not taken seriously. Beans is just one of them. It's called Kere in my dialect, Ewa in Yoruba, Agwa in Ibo and Wake in Hausa.
If you really want to loose weight, maintain your sugar level, fight cancers, drink plenty water, and look fresh, you should consider eating beans every week.
Beans may not appear so acceptable especially in a public setting but trust me, beans is very rich.
It has the highest protein content of any plant food, it has little fat, high fiber, it keeps you satisfied longer.
Beans are high in anti- oxidants, a class of phytochemicals that incapacitate cell damaging free radicals in the body.
Remember that free radicals have been implicated in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
Phytochemicals have been found to lower the risk of heart diseases.
Beans also contain Isoflavones which also lowers cancer risk.
You can agree with me that after eating beans, you would be thirsty and need a glass or two of water. That's because beans have a way of triggering your thirst center(in the hypothalamus). The water is good for you.
Beans are rich store of the saponins and phytosterols. These help to lower cholesterol. It also has vitamins, minerals such as copper, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and Zinc.
There are kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans, lime beans,black-eyed peas, garbanzo beans, split peas, lentils etc
You can eat beans porridge, boiled beans with stew. You may prefer to eat with rice, plantain or soak it with garri.
Beans can also be eaten as beans cake (akara),or as moi moi( steamed bean pudding).
Some people have argued that beans makes them fart. No problems with that, just do it appropriately, considering those around you. It is healthy.
For some people, it causes 'heart burn'. Never to worry, just ensure it is washed properly and per boiled. Also ensure that you eat it slowly with plenty of water.
Don't miss out on your rich-beans-meal.
Don't 'form', be natural.
Feel free, enjoy your beans.
