  1. Update on league rule changes

No discussion. Everyone was emailed a copy of the rule changes.

  1. Update on team level splits, conferences and state tournaments

No changes for this season. The proposal brought forward by the committee was tabled

until the fall meeting.

  1. Coaching Handbook
  2. Update on Section I (Introduction) and Section II (Policies and Procedures) in handbook

The handbook is very outdated. Jared will be emailing all HDC members section of the book

for review. We will update the coaching handbook though emails. Please “reply all” when

giving feedback.

  1. Coordinator Handbook

Amanda said progress on the handbook is slow and steady.

  1. Coaching Vacancy Update

The association-wide email had minimal impact. No emails from anyone interested in the Termite level.

Arlette Keller said her husband Ron took a year off last year and gave me his cell number to call him for coaching at the Mite level.

Sam will have coaches at the Squirt level.

At the Pee Wee level, several people are interested. Doug Coughlin is interested in coaching a team. Quentin Nieman is interested in coaching a team. Jason Jorgenson and Jon Dabney are interested in coaching only if they can coach together and their boys are on the same team. Nick Krokel is interested in being an assistant coach at the PW level. It is very possible if we only have parent coaches at the PW level that coaches on specific teams will not be known until after tryouts are completed.

We still need a head coach for the Bantam B.

Assistant coaches will need to be solidified at all levels.

The following names were mentioned as possible coaches; Price Wood at the Termite/Mite level, Chad Sietsema at the Pee Wee level, Aaron Smith and Matt Campbell at the BV level.

Scott Podoll is going to check at PC and NSU to see if we can recruit some college students to help coach.

  1. Players practicing with AHA teams, but playing elsewhere

Scott McLean and Steve Vilhauer were in attendance. Each has a son who is of Bantam age and will be playing on the SF Jr. Stampede this season. An email went out a couple weeks ago to HDC members asking for thoughts on allowing these players to register and be members of AHA, but not on an AHA roster. The players would practice with AHA teams and play games on the Jr. Stampede. After much discussion, it was unanimously voted on to allow for the 2016-17 season the players to register and practice with AHA teams and not be rostered. A policy will be drafted with expectations that must be adhered to throughout the season. The committee has significant concerns regarding team chemistry and camaraderie. We are trying this on a one season basis and will review during and after the season.

  1. Injured players and their participation with the team

The HDC is in favor of a player who is staring the season injured and still want to take part in team functions to be a registered member of USAH. These players would be rostered as either managers or players, knowing that they must be players by December 31 if they want to participate in the State Tournament. The HDC recommends that the player not be charged registration or raffle tickets unless they are able to play during the season. If they do play, a prorated amount for registration will be assessed by the board. Raffle tickets would need to be sold if they have not been collected yet.

  1. Concussion Policy

It is in place. We believe that David Poor is our current Risk Manager. Jared will check with Dave to see if he has the same understanding.

  4. An honest effort is going to be made to get all rules and policies from previous years off of paper and onto the computer so it can be uploaded to the website and is much easier to track decisions that have been made.

Tournament money—HDC recommended to Jeff that the $1000 per team across the board be adjusted to reflect tournament expenses as players move up in levels. Jeff will be taking to the board;

BV, BJV, GV, GJV, Bantams and Pee Wees at $1500/team.

Squirts at $1000/team.

  1. Hosting Tournaments—Paul Vikander has reached out to at least a dozen towns and none have been interested in coming to Aberdeen for a tournament at the PW, Bantam or Jr. Gold levels.
  2. It was asked how many “extra” hours of ice a team can request during the season. Rod found in his notebook that Varsity teams could request 4 additional hours, Bantam and Pee Wee teams 3 hours, Squirt and Mite teams 2 hours.
  3. We will be having many emails sent back and forth in the coming weeks. Please read and reply as necessary. Our next HDC meeting will be on Tuesday, August 9 at 6:00 in the Odde.
