Color Guard Try-Outs = May 5th thru May 8th from 7:00 – 7:50 AM. Clinics and try-out. Any additional questions or concerns, ask Mrs. Fatka.

Vehicle Registration Forms are located in the main office for next school year (2015-16) – please pick-up one if you plan to drive to school and park in the GSW parking lot.

Attention Sports Minded Senior Students: If you have any interest in becoming a certified IHSA official, in any sport, please see Coach Gibson for more information. The IHSA is providing each member school with TWO complimentary official registrations for the next school year.

If you like animals and/or would like to gain some community service hours. The Long Road Home Rescue organization is in need of dog walkers in Gardner near the high school. Stop by the guidance office for the phone number if you are interested. They need help ASAP.

The Mobile Food Truck is coming to South Wilmington on Monday, May 4th from 4-6pm at the St. Lawrence Church Parking Lot.

Found = A set of car keys and 1 pair of brown glasses. If you are missing these items, please claim in the main office! The BLUE glasses were claimed!

Premier summer school referrals are now available in the guidance office. If you need to make up credits or coursework this is the best way to do so. Premier is located in Morris and serves the entire county. Available seats are filled on a first come first serve basis. To reserve your spot you need to turn in a completed referral with a signature from Ms. Kilmer along with your payment to the Premier Academy. See Ms. Kilmer for more information. Do not delay. Spots fill quickly!

Community Service needed = The Church of Hope is offering an opportunity for the students who are in need of meeting their requirement for community service hours. They are holding their community Vacation Bible School program the week of June 22 – 26, 2015. Hours are from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to get 2 ½ hours each night. Please sign-up in the main office.

Community Service needed – The Elbow Benders are looking for up to 8 students to help work their Annual Spaghetti Dinner being held on Saturday, May 2nd. They are also in need of workers to sell raffle tickets (sit out in front of Berkott’s in South Willy). Please see main office for further details.

Coach’s Comment: I felt we played a pretty solid game against a pretty good 2A school. Defensively, I felt we made some good plays. Offensively, we had some early opportunities, but we just couldn't get a big hit.

Next game is on Monday at HOME against Tri-Point at 4:30 PM.

CLUBS:

Attention Math Team Members: Our last competition of the school year is this Saturday, May 2nd at U of I – ICTM State Contest! The bus will leave at 6:45am, please arrive at 6:30am. Please bring money for lunch and snacks throughout the day.

GUIDANCE:

Juniors and Seniors - If you are ranked in the top 15% of your class and plan to attend college you are eligible to participate in a study by Purdue University. Participants are paid for their work. Stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer, if you are interested.

If you are interested in an online summer reading program, stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer.

Students if you are interested in The Society of Torch & Laurel an organization honoring high school achievement to inspire collegiate success stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer with an invitation code.

National Academies Nomination deadline is May 1, 2015

Joliet Junior College requires that all new students intending to be full-time attend a New Student Orientation. Part-time students are also encouraged to attend. NSO provides information regarding the transition to college. The 2 and ½ hour program includes a description of degrees awarded, student support services and how to register and pay tuition. Students also meet one-on-one with a JJC Counselor or Advisor to develop their first-semester schedule. All students attending NSO leave with a schedule of classes and a firm foundation for success. NSO for fall 2015 term begins May 4, 2015. The NSO website will go live on Monday, April 27, 2015. Students will view a short online video and at the end have the opportunity to choose a NSO date, time, and location. NSO's are available at both the Main and Romeoville Campus.

Promising sophomore students are invited to attend a University of Illinois College Night – in Bloomington (May 5), Collinsville (May 12), Matteson (May 13), Elgin (May 14), or Chicago (May 19) – where University staff will talk with students and parents about planning for college: It’s Never Too Early! Admissions, financial aid, and student affairs staff from the Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield campuses will be there to talk with students and parents about early planning for college, student life, housing options, choosing a major, honors programs, campus clubs, athletics, arranging for campus visits or tours, and financial aid options.

Rural Illinois Medical Student Assistance Program (RIMSAP) is offering assistance on receiving a student loan. Must be a graduating senior planning to attend the University of Illinois studying to become a physician in a rural community. For more info., see guidance.

If you are interested in a Game Experience summer program at the University of Washington stop by the guidance office for more information. The program is focused around art, animation, programming, and video game design.

Seniors - If you would like to attend college but are not sure your academic skills are at the necessary level you should consider attending the Joliet Junior College Bridge Program this summer. The program is Mondays - Thursdays June 15 - July 2 and will help students prepare for credit in transferable coursework. Architecture Camp at Southern Illinois University Carbondale this summer = July 19-24. For more information, see guidance.

Presence Kankakee Regional Volunteer Services is looking for students, 15 and older, to join their summer Spirit of Teen mentoring program. It is a 7 week commitment starting Monday June 8 - Friday August 7. Deadline for applications is May 29. For more information, see Guidance Department.

Elmhurst College is hosting a Jazz Combo Camp this summer June 17-19, 2015. Anyone interested stop by the guidance office.

Students - If you plan to play a sport at the college level make sure you meet with Ms. Kilmer to discuss the NCAA Clearinghouse. Student athletes at a Division I, II, or III institute must meet rigorous academic requirements. Together we can review the courses you have taken and those you plan to take to make sure you meet the necessary criteria.

If you plan to go to JJC before transferring to a 4 year college and you want to make sure that your taking the classes that will transfer correctly you can attend a Transfer Success Info Session.
