BYLAWS

ARTICLEI:NAME

ThenameofthisforumshallbetheGriffin ElementarySchoolAdvisoryForum(SAF).ThisForum operatesunderBrowardCountySchoolBoardPolicy1.3:SchoolAdvisoryForum.

ARTICLEII:OBJECTIVES

Section1:MissionStatement:ThemissionoftheGriffin ElementarySAFistofosterandpromote communicationbetween itsstakeholders,theschool,andtheAreaAdvisoryCouncil.TheSAFshallbring forthrecommendations,concerns,andintereststoandfromtheirAreaAdvisoryCouncil.

Section2:Duties:

1.Alldutieswillbeadvisoryinnature,noneofwhichwillconflictwithanyofthepowersandduties reservedbylaw,policyoradministrativeguidelinestotheprincipal.

2.ActivelyparticipatewiththeSchoolAdvisoryCouncilinidentifyingtheeducationalneedsand prioritiesoftheschool.

3.Activelyparticipatewiththeprincipalinthepreparationofthebudget,andreviewingthebudget- relatedconcernsaftereachFTEcount.

4.Indicateawarenessoftheprogramandplansfortheschoolbythesignatureofthechairpersonon thebudgetwhenitissubmittedfordistrictbudgetpreparation.

5.Assistintheidentificationandcoordinationoftheuseofcommunityresourcestoimprovestudentachievementandschooleffectiveness.

6.Addressparent/communityconcerns;workwiththeadministrationtosolveproblemsandtoinitiate desirablechange.

7.Assistinincreasing/sustaininghighlevelsofcommunitysupportfortheschool.

8.Assistinplanning,developingandimplementingparent/communityprogramsandtrainingactivities.

9.ParticipateinjointtrainingopportunitieswiththeSchoolAdvisoryCouncil.

10.InadditiontoindividualSchoolAdvisoryForummeetings,holdsemi-annualmeetingsjointlywiththe SchoolAdvisoryCouncil.

11.The SchoolAdvisory Forum shalluse guidelines developedby thedistrict, develop andadoptproceduralbylaws,conductmeetingsinaccordancewiththeFloridaSunshineLaws,andconductmeetingsaccordingtoRobert’sRulesofOrder,NewlyRevised.

12.Asanapoliticalorganization,officersandmembersareprohibitedfromusingtheirtitlesand/ortheir positionstoendorse,orgivetheimpressionofendorsingcandidatesforpublicoffice.Inaddition,publicmoniesand/ormaterialsmaynotbeusedtoendorsecandidatesorfurthertheircampaigns.

ARTICLEIII:MEMBERSHIP

Section1:MembershipoftheSchoolAdvisoryForum(SAF)shallberepresentativeoftheschool communitytoincludeparentsorguardiansofthestudentsenrolledintheschool,studentsoftheschool,employeesoftheschool,businesspartnersoftheschool,communitymembersandbusinesspeople.Participationfromallethnic,religious,cultural,andsocioeconomicbackgroundsiswelcomeand encouraged.

Section2:VotingRights:Meetingsareopentoallbutvotingrightsaregrantedonlytomemberswhoare parentsorguardiansofthestudentswhoareenrolledintheschoolormatriculatingtotheschoolthe followingyear,studentsoftheschool,employeesoftheschoolandbusinesspartnersoftheschool.To voteatanymeeting,membersmustsigninandshowproofthattheymeettheabovevotingmembership requirements,ifrequested.

ARTICLEIV:OFFICERS

Section1:Officers.TheofficersshallbetheChairperson,Vice-Chairperson,andRecordingSecretary.Theyshouldbeelectedannuallyatthefinalmeetingoftheschoolyearbutnolaterthanthefirstmeeting ofthenextschoolyear.

Section2:Eligibility:TheChairpersonandtheVice-chairpersonshallbeaparentorcustodialguardian ofastudentwhowillbeenrolledandattendingtheschoolduringtheirtermofserviceandshallnotbe employedbytheSchoolBoardofBrowardCountyattheschoolwheretheywillserve.

Section3:TermofOffice:ElectedOfficersshallserveaperiodofoneyearoruntiltheirsuccessorshave beenelected.Theymaybere-electedtothatofficefor10consecutiveterms.

Section4:ElectionofOfficers:Nominationsshallbetakeninaccordancewith ArticleV,Section2.The electionshallbebyawrittenandsignedballotwhenthereismorethanonecandidateforanyoffice.The ballotswillbecountedbyamemberofSchoolAdministration,amemberoftheNominatingCommittee andavotingmemberoftheAdvisoryForumwhoisnotontheballot.

Section5:ChairpersonDuties.TheChairpersonshallhavethefollowingduties:

a.PresideatalltheGriffin ElementarySAFmeetings;

b.Signallcorrespondenceaswellas,distributeallcorrespondencetotheelectedofficersofthe

Griffin ElementarySAF;

c.AttendallAreaAdvisoryMeetings

d.AttendtheSchoolAdvisoryCouncilmeetingsasavotingmemberorappointapermanentdesignee toattendthemeetings;

e.Actinaprofessional,promptandorganizedmanneratalltimesand,

f.RepresentthemajorityopinionoftheGriffin ElementarySAF.

Section6:Vice-ChairpersonDuties.TheVice-Chairpersonshallhavethefollowingduties:

a.AssumeallthedutiesoftheChairpersonintheeventthats/hebecomesincapacitated,unavailable,ormuststepdown;

b.AssisttheChairpersoninperforminghis/herduties;

c.Actinaprofessional,promptandorganizedmanneratalltimes.

Section7:RecordingSecretaryDuties.TheRecordingSecretaryshallhavethefollowingduties:

a.EnsuretherecordingofminutesateachGriffin ElementarySAF.

b.PresenttheminutesatthenextGriffin ElementarySAFmeetingforreview.

c.RetaincopiesofallminutesofanyGriffin ElementarySAFmeetingsandcommittees.

d.TransmittheapprovedGriffin ElementarySAFminutestothePrincipalandtosuchotherpersons astheForummaydirect.RetaincopiesofalltheGriffin ElementarySAFcorrespondences,chairperson’sreports,andmeeting/committeereports

ARTICLEV:COMMITTEES

Section 1:The Chairpersonwill createsuch committeesas maybe required topromote theobjectives oftheGriffin ElementarySAF.OnceformedthecommitteemembersshallelectaChairperson.

Section2:NominatingCommittee:TheChairpersonwillappointaNominatingCommitteeatthegeneral meetingnolaterthanMarch.TheCommitteewillconsistofatleastthreemembersandalwayshavean unevennumberofmembers.AtleastoneofficeroftheSAFshallserveontheNominatingCommittee.Thecommitteewillelectachairperson.ThepurposeoftheNominatingCommitteeshallbetonominate onepersontofilleachelectedpositionandtopresentthisslateofofficersatthegeneralmeetingwhere electionswilltakeplace.Additionalnominationsmaybemadefromthefloorwhentheelectionsareheld.TheCommitteeshallfunctionaccordingtoRobert’sRulesofOrder,NewlyRevised.

Section3:EachCommitteeChairshallhavethedutytoupdatetheGriffin ElementarySAF,as necessary,atthemonthlygeneralmeeting.

ARTICLEVI:MEETINGS

Section1:GeneralMeetings:Griffin ElementarySAFshallmeetregularlywiththetime,date,andplace of futuremeetingsdecidedbythe Griffin ElementarySAFwith theunderstandingthatallmeetingswill be heldinplacesthatareeasilyaccessibletothepublic.Notificationofallregularmeetingsshallbe includedintheminutesandannouncedperFloridaSunshineStatelaw.

TheGriffin ElementarySAFshallmeetatleasttwiceayearwiththeGriffin ElementarySchoolAdvisory Councilwiththetime,date,andplaceofmeetingtobedeterminedbymutualagreementoftheSACand SAF.NotificationofallspecialmeetingsshallbeincludedintheminutesandannouncedperFlorida SunshineStatelaw.

Section2:SpecialMeetings:

a.Aspecialmeetingmaybecalledwhenitisdeemednecessarytoconductthebusinessofthe forum.TheChairpersonoramajorityvoteofthemembershipmaycallspecialmeetings.NotificationofallspecialmeetingsshallbeincludedintheminutesandannouncedperFlorida SunshineStatelaw.

ARTICLEVII:AMENDMENTS

ThesebylawsoftheGriffin ElementarySAFmaybeamendedatanyregularmeetingbyatwo/thirds affirmativevoteofthoseeligiblevotersinattendance,providedthattheamendmenthasbeensubmitted inwritingatthepreviousmeeting.AnyamendmentmustconformtotheBrowardCountySchoolBoard PolicyforSchoolAdvisoryForums;Policy1.3.

ARTICLEVIII:PARLIAMENTARYAUTHORITY

TherulescontainedinthecurrenteditionofRobert’sRulesofOrder,NewlyRevisedshallgovernthe

Griffin ElementarySchoolAdvisoryForum.
