Speaker Bios

Greg Cooper, CLS, MHA, CQA

Greg Cooper is a California-licensed clinical laboratory scientist and principal of W. Gregory Cooper LLC, an enterprise advising medical laboratories about quality systems. Throughout his career, he has been heavily involved in the development of laboratory standards. He participated in developing both the first version (2003) and latest revision (2012) of the ISO quality systems standard for laboratories, ISO 15189. He is active in standards development with the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, and in 2010 gained certification as a certified quality auditor for the American Society for Quality. He also serves as a medical laboratory assessor for the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA).Cooper holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of La Verne.

Valerie Ng, MD, PhD

Valerie Ng, MD, PhD, is chair of laboratory medicine and pathology,and director of the clinical laboratory and transfusion service, at Alameda County Medical Center, in Oakland. She previously retired from the University of California, San Francisco, where she had served as professor and interim chair of the department of laboratory medicine, director of the UCSF clinical laboratory, and chief of the medical staff at San Francisco General Hospital.Ng served two terms on the board of directors for the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, and also served two terms as a member of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee. She is chair of the laboratory medicine editorial review group for Doody Enterprises, and also serves as a reviewer for the College of American Pathologists point of care testing and laboratory general accreditation checklists. She remains a consultant to FDA advisory committees on microbiology devices, hematology and pathology devices, and molecular and clinical genetics. Ng received her PhD from the University of Texas graduate school of biomedical sciences, and her MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

Terri Wolek, MT(ASCP)

Terri Wolek is the US quality control product manager for Bio-Rad Laboratories. She earned her BS in medical technology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently held positions at clinical laboratories in a variety of settings, including the Johns Hopkins Medical Center. Wolek joined Bio-Rad as an account manager in 1997, and was promoted to quality systems specialist within two years. She is passionate about quality control practices and speaks frequently at regional and national meetings for professional societies and healthcare systems.
