Monday / To plan the characters, setting, problem and solution for our castle story. / Read and discuss ‘The Kiss that Missed’. Describe the characters and the setting (particularly the castle) Identify the problem and how it was solved. Discuss ideas for a castle story and the types of solutions. (eg meeting a frog in the castle, princess kisses it, it turns into a prince; castle is being attacked, knight falls into the moat, his horse saves him and he defeats the enemy) / -choose your characters (good /bad)

Tuesday / To write the beginning and middle of your story using interesting words and sentence starters to make it interesting. / Introduce key words. Have ‘there was a frog. He was in a castle.’ Invite chn to improve using adjectives for the frog. Discuss where the description words go – before the noun. Cut up sentence to add in effective words. Add in sentence/story starter in the same way. / -Think of a story starter.
-What will your first sentence be? Remember to use describing words.
Wednesday / To write the middle of your story using interesting words and sentence starters to make it interesting.. / Revisit key words. Have a child tell the problem in their story (BA group). Work with class to improve into a super sentence. (Shared writing) Give out each child’s story. Talk with partner about what they will write in their story for problem. Can they give each other suggestions on how to improve it? / -Think of your sentence.

Thursday / To write ending of our story including an interesting solution.
To check and improve our stories. / Have boring/silly endings. Read with chn and select one that doesn’t work. Have chn explain why it doesn’t work. Get them to help write an exciting ending. / -Think of your sentence.

(SEN group – work with adult to plan a group story. Practice telling story to each other and have chn do own pictures of group story.)
