Cycle Patrol Volunteers

What’s involved?

·  Prior to the cycle patrols commencing – you will undertake your cycle proficiency assessment.

·  You will be teamed up with an existing volunteer who fits the criteria.

·  And provided with the locations in which we want visibility and information. And who to report specific incidents to.

·  We will ensure you are a familiar face on station, so you can assemble the bicycles.

·  You'll have use of a Fire Service bicycle, protective wear and a basic uniform.

·  We aim to partner up each volunteer when carrying out cycle patrols

·  Duties range from general community visibility, to hazard spotting and void property monitoring

·  You will also get to take part in additional volunteering activities outside of cycle patrols – in which we will try and interact with locals and generate HSCs or offer general fire and road safety advice

Skills:

·  To take part in a Cycle Proficiency test

·  Live locally to work out of your local fire station

·  Confidence on a bike

·  The ability to be assertive

·  Confident dealing with the public

·  Freedom to provide a flexible working arrangement with your coordinator. And provide extra cover during school holidays and other Fire Service busy periods, such as Halloween and Bonfire Night

Commitment required:

·  Time available for a minimum of two hours

·  Patrols take place Mon - Sun between 10.00 to 16.00 (Oct to March) & 10.00 to 19.00 (April to September)

Volunteers take part in cycle patrols across the whole of Greater Manchester:

·  Bolton: Farnworth, Bolton Central & Horwich

·  Bury: Radcliffe

·  Manchester: Collyhurst & Monsal

·  Salford: Eccles, Ordsall, Broughton

·  Trafford: Stretford, Broadheath & Partington

·  Stockport: Brinnington & Adswood

Roles available:

New recruits will begin their experience as general volunteers conducting cycle patrols when requested. However there is an opportunity to become a trainer, in which you will utilize your skills, and train and develop new and existing volunteers to the cycle proficiency standard.
