Great First Quarter

The first quarter of school has been excellent at Delta High School! Students are settled into their routines and the process of learning is in full swing. We are pleased with the attitude and effort of our students. Expectations are set high and we look forward to working together to reach our potential and succeed in the 2014-2015 school year.

Fall Activity Success

DHS students have been successful representing our school and community this fall. The Softball team won their third straight WSL title and competed in a 4A regional tournament in Pueblo. The Panther Pride Marching Band qualified for State and competed in Pueblo bringing home a seventh place finish. Cross Country completed a solid season recently with a large number of participants competing in the regional at Confluence Park. The Golf program also had solid numbers and qualified two golfers for the State tournament. Boys Soccer completed the year recently competing in the rugged WSL and showed improvement. Volleyball finished their regular season 19-4 and will host a Regional tournament here Saturday November 7th. Football will be competing for the WSL title Friday November 6th at 7:00PM and entering the State playoffs starting November 14th.

Website, Facebook, PowerSchool, & Automatic Notification System

The DHS Website is updated weekly to keep you informed of all happenings. We also have a Facebook page (DHS Panthers) that is updated regularly to help keep you informed. Student attendance and grades can be reviewed through PowerSchool at any time. Please call or come by the school to obtain your username, password, and learn how to access this convenient tool. Students are expected to check their grades each week using their PowerSchool login and password. Our automatic notification system will also be used to notify and/or remind you of upcoming events. This system will contact the phone number and email address entered into your PowerSchool account.

Quarterly Newsletter

Quarterly newsletters will be posted on our website. A newsletter will also be mailed at the end of the semester with report cards. Any formal documentation requests or notices will be mailed to your home throughout the year. If at any time you need to check your student’s progress or need clarification or information please use your PowerSchool account, check our website, or call the school.

Quarterly Parent Accountability Committee (PAC)/Booster Club Meetings

Our first meeting of theParent Accountability Committee/Booster Club took place at 6:00 PM on September 23, 2015 in classroom A-1. We had just over a dozen parents present for the meeting. Our PAC/Booster Club meetings provide an opportunity for us to report on the progress of DHS, ask for feedback/help, and provide you a forum for questions and answers. Meeting time will be approximately one hour. Our next meeting will be December 9th at 6:00PM in room A-1. We hope to see you there!

Student Attendance & Power Announcement

All absences must be confirmed by our attendance office with a parent/guardian and coded as either excused or unexcused. DHS uses an automated caller program (Power Announcement) to help notify the home of any student who has an unexcused absence for one or more class periods. If you have called to notify the school that your student will be absent or checked your student out at some point, then our secretaries will code the computer and the caller should not notify you. The system begins calls at 4:30 PM. If you do receive a call the system will ask you to please call and confirm your student’s absence. Please make a point to call the following day and confirm your student’s absence. Themaximum number of unexcused absences a student may incur is 4 unexcused absences in a month or ten unexcused days during any calendar year or school year. School administration will notifyparents in writing at the third unexcused absence in a month and/or the 7th and 10th unexcusedabsence in a year.

Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up

In order to keep our students safe and maintain traffic flow, we ask you to please use our parent lane. The parent lane enters the west parking lot from the main loop off Pioneer Road and exits the lot to the east back onto the main loop, which will exit the campus onto F Road. The gates in the main loop reduce traffic to one lane for busses only. A crosswalk is also maintained to help improve student safety as they cross the bus lane.

DHS ACCESS Program, Gold Cards, & Positive Incentives

Delta High School uses a system that rewards the positive behavior of our students. Each week student grades are checked and if they maintain C’s or better they earn privileges for the coming week. Seniors, juniors, and sophomores earn the privilege of managing their own time during Access period (9:05-9:30) each day. They have the option to chose which teachers they wish to access and/or get involved with our many club opportunities that take place during this time. Freshmen maintain their freshman seminar schedule where they gain further support during their transition into high school. Seniors and juniors and are also rewarded with an open campus 42 minute lunch period. Gold cards are awarded to students who have met ACT, PLAN, or grade incentives. Gold cardholders enjoy discounts at local merchants and school events. Sophomores who earn a Gold Card after the first quarter also earn open campus privileges with parent approval.

If a student has fallen behind (D’s or F’s) they are required to attend Content Tutoring for 25 minutes each day where they gain support to catch up and get back on track. Students in Content Tutoring lose open campus privileges until they improve their grades to “C” or better.
