Graphic Designer Overview and Application

The SGA is seeking full-time, fee paying undergraduate students with a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA, in good standing with the University to serve in the Marketing Department as a Graphic Designer for the 2017-18 Academic Year.

Each Graphic Designer is required to work 10 hours per week on an as-needed basis and will be compensated hourly for their work. The selected individual’s responsibilities will include;

•Conceptualizing and designing promotional posters, fliers, ads, information graphics, email banners, and social media images.
•Working with the SGA videographer to produce video-ready pieces, CGs and overlays
•Designing t-shirt graphics to promote SGA and student group events/initiatives
•Editing ads and graphics from various on-campus departments and student organizations
•Producing press-ready files for the SGA advertising space in The TowerLight
•Working with SGA members and student organizations to support/promote student organization and SGA events, programs and initiatives.

This person must be able to work with minimal direction with complete creative freedom in the development of design concepts and ensuring a finished project. Must also be able to work in a high-paced environment, think outside-the-box, and meet deadlines. This student employee will be an active and highly valued member of the Student Government Association Marketing Department.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student studying graphic design (or related field).
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA at the time of application. maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout employment.
  • Must be in good disciplinary and financial standing with the university
  • Forward-thinking, with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to learn new software and procedures
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Flexible with regard to office hours and meeting times
  • Independent, also with the ability to work well in groups
  • A highly motivated, go-getter willing to self-start and initiate communications with other team members
  • Detail-oriented, with strong creative thinking abilities
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, communication and public relations skills
  • Comfortable creating designs from scratch with minimal direction, as well as specific expectations
  • Familiar with graphic design theory and best practices
  • Knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Suite, on both Mac and PC platforms, including:
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • InDesign (strongly preferred)
  • Comfortable creating press-ready mechanical files (including knowledge of color-space, image resolution, bleed, and other standard requirements)
  • Able to create printable vector and web-ready graphics
  • Proficient with technology, including computers, digital cameras, and video recording devices

Project: Please note this project has two parts
Part 1: TU Takeover is a Freshman welcome event put on by the Student Government Association. The event includes games, prizes, food, inflatables etc. Please create a flier to promote the event. This description is intentionally generic, we want to see what you come up with!
Part 2: The SGA is looking to rebrand. Please design a sample logo for us!
