PURPOSE

Safely and completely clean area affected with glass, brittle plastics or ceramic breakage.

SCOPE

The glass, brittle plastics or ceramic breakage guideline in this section is for FARO Services in Columbus, Ohio. This includes but is not limited to glass containers, light bulbs, plastic gauges, plastic storage containers, ceramic mugs, ceramics containers, brittle plastics, cell phones etc.

PREREQUISITES

Supervisors and quality control personnel must ensure that all provided equipment is available at all times and is strictly enforced. Equipment involved is a glass dedicated broom and dust pan. Seal numbers will be recorded to ensure only a one time use.

RESPONSIBILITY

All supervisors and quality control personnel are in charge of maintaining cleaning equipment and insuring all steps are followed.

PROCEDURE

1)All activities and production cease in the affected area immediately

2)Notify Supervisor

3)Remove or protect all food, packaging, and processing aids

4)Thoroughly clean the area (at minimum a 15’ area around breakage) with the designated tools.

5)All tools and equipment used to clean area must be dumped

6)A full inspection by QA must take place

7)Once approval is provided by the QA, only then can production resume

8)The Supervisor or QA must complete the Incident Report Form (SOP003-11) detailing what happened and corrective actions taken

9)Employees can only have glass personal items in the break room, they may not bring personal glass items into the warehouse

10) Cell phones are permitted in the warehouse in designated areas and are subject to inspection for cracked screens

11) Monthly review of breakage item checklist

12) Monthly review facility review inspecting for breakage or damage

All light bulbs, fixtures, windows, mirrors, skylights and other glass over exposed product/zones are protected against glass breakage (eg. Rework, repackaging, etc). All other glass that is not of the safety type or otherwise protected is managed as part of the Glass, Brittle Plastics and Ceramics Program. Glass in personal belongings is restricted to break areas or other designated controlled areas.
