GRADUATION INFO
Soon, you will be participating in the 2015 Reagan High School Commencement at the Lawrence Joel Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum. In order to ensure a memorable experience for all, we are asking you to keep a few simple things in mind.
Graduation Rehearsal-This year’s rehearsal will be held at the Coliseum on Thursday, June 4th at 4:00pm. Please arrive no earlier than 3:40, but no later than 3:50. We will begin on time!! Do not schedule any appointments that may conflict with your practice. Attendance is not optional!! Practice will last approximately two hours.
For practice, please park in the lot marked on your attached map (Mountain Dew Lot.) Enter the Coliseum at the smoking patio - the door closest to Deacon Boulevard (note – this is NOT the main entrance, nor the Windsor Room). There will be Reagan staff members placed through the Coliseum to direct you to the floor. Only Graduates and Reagan Staff will be allowed in the Coliseum during practice!! Do not bring friends or parents with you. If your parents bring you, they will need to return later to pick you up. The rehearsal is not open to spectators!
Graduation-The Graduation Processional will begin promptly at 9:00am on Saturday, June 6th. Youshould arrive between 8:15-8:30. For entering the coliseum on graduation day, you will follow the same procedure from graduation practice and remain in the backstage area. For security reasons, the Coliseum requires that caps/gowns are not put on until you are inside the Coliseum. Family and friends will not be allowed in the backstage area for any reason, so please communicate this with your family beforehand.
Please be sure to take your cap and gown out of its package and hang it up so the wrinkles will fall out. Do not iron it!!
Leave purses and bags at home since you will not be carrying them on the floor. Homeroom teachers will have a bag for your keys and cell phones during the ceremony. You need to be sure to collect these before you leave.
Attire – DRESS CODE applies to graduation.
- Gentlemen should wear dark dress slacks (black or navy blue, absolutely no jeans or khakis), black dress shoes (no boots, flip-flops, or sneakers), white or off-white dress shirt, and a dark tie or bowtie.
- Ladies should wear a dress or skirt & top, and black dress shoes (shoes should be closed heel, absolutely no sneakers or flip flops, not even dressy ones) Skirt/dress length should be appropriate, but if it is longer than the gown, you will have to pin it up. Ladies should remember that you’ll be walking up and down many stairs, thus high heels are neither practical nor logical for this day.
Friends and family will not be allowed backstage in the Coliseum arena for socializing/photos before the exercises. Photo Specialties Photography will take the photo of each of you receiving your diploma. They will contact you regarding picture orders.
Remember that there is information on the Senior Webpage regarding the opportunity to purchase a DVD of the graduation ceremony.
Communicate with your family members that all Reagan families and graduates will be expected to exit as soon as the recessional ends. Only the graduating class of 2015 will be allowed in the designated cap and gown drop off area. Graduates must return to their homeroom teacher to turn in their NHS cords (if applicable), get their diploma, and initial having received the diploma before leaving backstage area. Students are to leave immediately after completing these activities. If you ride with your parents, you’ll need to meet them in the parking lot.
Parking-Each graduate will be expected to park in the Mountain Dew Lot(marked on the map). Parents will park in the Pepsi parking lot in front of the Coliseum.
Seating/Tickets- Seniors cleared for graduation (no failing grades/no debts/no overdue library books) will receive tickets on Class Day. If you are not eligible to receive your tickets/cap and gown on Class Day, please improve your grade status and/or pay your debts ASAP!! You will receive a card identifying what you must clear up in order to be eligible. When you are cleared from what is checked off, be sure to have the appropriate person sign off that you are cleared. Once you are “cleared”, come to the 100 hallway workroom at the announced times to get your materials. These times will be on the Senior Webpage. If you clear a debt on Friday, May 22, you will not receive your cap/gown until the following week.
Anyone entering the Coliseum will need a ticket and must enter through the MAIN entrance. Tickets will be taken at the door. “Lap children” (usually children one and under who are not yet walking) will not need a ticket. If your family needs extra tickets, your son/daughter will need to ask classmates who may not need all of theirs. The deadline for extra ticket requests was May 13, 2015 (and they had received the form in their Senior Day packets last December). Tickets are notto be purchased/sold!! This is illegal!!
The coliseum staff will give instruction as to when the doors can be opened. We anticipate the doors opening one hour prior to graduation. Please be sure to communicate this with your parents!!
