Grades Have Been Updated in Power Schools. We Have Had Lots of Illness This Week, and Several

Greetings Families, Week October 12, 2015

Hello to All,

Grades have been updated in Power Schools. We have had lots of illness this week, and several early dismissals to catch the Dixie Classic Fair. Please check your child’s grades as I have many missing assignments. Thank you.

 A notation of R & R is made in the comments box - this means that there is an “Actual” grade and R & R means your child revised and resubmitted for ½ credit. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to extend learning and improve grades. You can track how your child did on the ‘first’ assessment, as well as, how much they improved on the “revisit”.

 A comment of “Missing please submit” means either I have your child’s work in the “no name” box, or he/she did not turn it in. I try my best to help locate work (often in their desk).

 A comment of “Absent please submit” means this assignment is important to your child’s learning and should be made up and submitted at your earliest convenience.

Portfolio Packets will go home Monday for your review, signature and return.

Important Dates:

Monday Reading THEME test

Monday, Math Decimal Quiz – Study guides were done today in class.

Social Studies: I switched things up a bit and we learned about Native Americans this week. We had 6 groups present their region of Native American tribes. Posters were made and they are fantastic. Students learned about early government, housing, bartering, customs, traditions and physical environments of regional tribes. We will begin Early Explorers this week. Your child will get to choose an explorer of their choice and become an expert. They will create a Bio Cube on the computer and share their knowledge.

Science: We began Energy Food Webs this week which will tie in our Ecosystems unit. Vocabulary is huge and will require additional review at home. This unit is huge and will last 4-5 weeks. We began with our energy pyramid, chain, and web. Vocabulary focus included what makes up our population and community.

Reading: We will read our next Basal story, Looking for a Home and Passage to Freedom. Objectives will focus on comparing two texts with similar theme, 2 or more main ideas and combining information from two texts of same topic. GRAMMAR will focus on affix of suffix and prefix. WRITING: We are filling out our Figurative Language booklet. So far we have reviewed simile, metaphor, alliteration, and personification.

Math: We will have a Place Value/Decimal quiz Monday. We took a pre-quiz and completed a study guide. Our next unit is adding and subtracting decimals and whole numbers with decimals.

The PBIS (Positive Behavior System) Document our school recognizes gives a student no more than 3 opportunities a day to make a good choice before the documented behavior is sent home for signature. Should your child come home with a disciplinary form please know it was written AFTER we have talked repeatedly to your child about the choices he/she is making, tried positive strategies in class, and have reflected. The form should be signed by a parent/guardian and one copy returned to me. I would hope that should this occur, it would only be one time.

Should your child have three or more disciplinary forms in a week, he/she will be sent to the office to speak to the principal and a phone call from there will be made to you. A decision to visit with ISS (In School Suspension) will also be discussed. Thank you for helping support our school in creating a positive learning environment for all.
