Fredrick Bailey was born into slavery in February 1818. He devoted his time working for his master, even though he despised him and how he treated other fellow slaves. He used his talent, strength, and energy to try and end slavery for everyone and gaining equal rights. For him, that was his number one top priority to fulfill. He hated the fact that slaves had to sleep on the floor and then expected to do a good day’s work on the fields. He hated the fact that a lot of them where beat every day, and some of them even killed, no matter how hard they worked. He did what he could to stop slavery, and later on in September 3, 1838, he escaped slavery to Baltimore, where he started a new start as Fredrick Douglass.
Captain Canot was someone who would capture slaves to work for him. He thought it was ok to make them sleep on the floor and give them very small privlages, like little clean clothes and little food. He supported slavery fully, and didn’t see a single thing wrong with it. He was a very famous slave trader, and was know for raiding other vessels. He thought that being black ment tthat you where labled to be a slave. Therefore, he didn’t have much of a problem with abusing, capturing, and selling slaves. When the slaves where on his ship, he only thought of them as cargo, not as human beings. This shows he didn’t really care for humans, especially slaves.
All together, this information shows how much Fredrick douglass and captian canot are different. Fredrick did whatever he could to try and stop slavery, while Canot supported it fully and had absolutely no problem with it. Fredrick actually cares for not only himself, but for other slaves and African Americans to. All canot is doing is making matters worse and treating people like garbage, or In his form, cargo. So this just goes to show just how much one person can affect a situation. Either they can make it better and try to risk your life fixing it, just like Fredrick Douglass did, or they can make matters worse of the situation and support it, causing others to pay for what they did, even if they have to die.
