Grade Level/Content Area / ESL Pull-Out, Grades 1-4

RULES

Always listen and follow directions.
Always respect yourself, your classmates, and your teachers.
No running or yelling – always use your walking feet and your inside voice.
Don’t hit or kick other people in the classroom.
Don’t call out in class – always raise your hand to answer questions.

NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES

I will have a four-step consequences system. Each student will have four color cards in a pocket under their name on a pocket chart (or will have cards on their desks if I am unable to have a wall pocket chart, or am pushing in). The pocket chart will allow for names to be changed when I switch groups. The consequences for negative behavior are as follows:
Green: Excellent behavior. Every student starts the day on green.
Yellow: First warning – time-out.
Red: Second warning – time-out and a call home.
Blue: Third warning – removal from group, sent back to primary classroom.
Students who receive warnings will be instructed to change their behavior card to the next color. Students will have the ability to move both up and down the negative consequences chart.
At the end of the session I will fill in each student’s color on my behavior tracking sheet, and students will fill their color in on their own individual tracking sheet in their folder.
The last day of the week that I see my students I will send home a note to families with a report on what color the student ended each day on and some comments (positive and, if necessary, something to work on the following week).

POSITIVE CONSEQUENCES

Students will be given verbal praise for positive individual behavior and when working in groups.
Students who stayed on green during our session will get a sticker. I also want to have another prize (like a certificate) for students who are able to accumulate a certain number of “green days”; how many green days will earn them a prize will depend on how often I see them. For example, if I see my students only twice a week, it might be that eight green days earns them a certificate.
When working in groups, I will give students group points for following the rules (i.e., working well with their peers, sharing, listening, working hard, following directions, etc.). At the end of our session, the group with the most points will get a jolly rancher or some jellybeans.

I will also be taking anecdotal notes on student behavior on my clipboard.
