Pre-College Curriculum Requirements
Students seeking admission to a Kentucky university will be required to meet the minimum pre-college curriculum requirements. Both advanced and general courses meet the minimum requirements for pre-college curriculum. Please note: The following requirements exceed those established by the Kentucky Council on Higher Education for public universities and the standards approved by the Kentucky Department of Education.
Required Courses:
English: 4 Credits – English I; English II; English III; English IV
Mathematics: 3 Credits – Algebra I; Algebra II; Geometry
Science: 3 Credits – Credits to include life science, physical science, earth/space science (at least one lab course)
Social Studies: 3 Credits – From U.S. History; World Civilization; World Geography, Economics, Government
Health: ½ Credit
Physical Education: ½ Credit
History & Appreciation of Visual, Performing Arts: 1 Credit – History & appreciation of visual and performing arts or arts course that incorporates such content
Nonnative (Foreign) Language: 2 Credits or demonstrated competency in the same language
Electives: 7 Credits (5 rigorous) Recommended strongly; one or more courses that develop computer literacy. Rigorous electives should have academic content at least as challenging as that in courses required in the minimum high school graduation requirement. These electives should also be in social studies, science, math, arts & humanities, nonnative language, and above the introductory level in non-core classes. Electives in health and physical education are limited to ½ credit each. These credits may also be used to begin career training in Agriculture, Welding, Drafting, Auto Technology, Medical Sciences, Information Technology, Business and Consumer Family Sciences.

Grade Level Classification and Graduation Requirements

The basic Carnegie unit of credit is given for the completion of a one-semester, 90-minute course or a year-long, 45-minute course. Individual class graduation credit requirements are shown in the previous table.

Promotion

·  To promote to grade 10, a student must have a minimum of 6 credits

·  To promote to grade 11, a student must have a minimum of 13 credits

·  To promote to grade 12, a student must have a minimum of 20 credits

Grading Information

Letter grades are assigned the following percentage:

A 90%-100% Excellent

B 80%-89% Good

C 70%-79% Average

D 60%-69% Below Average

F Below 60% Unsatisfactory

GPA Computation: The grade point average is computed using the grade for each 9-week grading period multiplied by the credit value: ie. For a blacked class: A=4 points X .50 credit, 45 minute class: A=4 points X .25 credit.

Criteria for Earning College Credit in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS)
College credit will be awarded for each course identified in this agreement if the following criteria are met: (The college credit awarded for the specified course may be used toward those course requirements in various programs at the community colleges.)
1.  High school and/or area technology center student successfully completes the secondary course.
2.  High school and/or area technology center student completes at the proficient level or higher during the performance event and written examination for the secondary course. It is administered and graded by the secondary teacher.
3.  Student should meet the pre-college curriculum requirements.
4.  Student enrolls and ears credit at a community college.
5.  Official articulation transcript will be submitted to the community college’s admissions office.
