Late Work or Missing Work: Students must complete assignments and submit them to the teacher in order to demonstrate that they are working toward proficiency. Late work will be accepted up until the chapter test. Students absent on the day of an assessment or for a review must take the assessment on the day they return. Students absent for more than one day will have up to one week to make up the assessment. It is the responsibility of the student to make an appointment with me to make up their missing work. They may also ask to be requested for cave period or office hours.

Reassessment: Students may be given opportunities to retake a test or quiz they fail or wish to retake in order to demonstrate proficiency, provided that they are making adequate progress toward proficiency.

Assignments/Warm-ups

There will usually be an assignment for every lesson we discuss. Each assignment will be recorded in the grade book based on completion. Assignments are individual practice that is “insurance” for a test retake. Assignments will not have reassessments offered but will be accepted up until the test.

There will be a warm-up most days in class. Students are expected to complete the warm-up during the first few minutes of class. Students will complete the warm-ups on their warm-up sheet. I will collect the warm-up sheets at the end of each chapter.

Quizzes

There will be a short quiz approximately once a chapter. Students will be allowed to retake a quiz if they meet the following criteria:

  1. Students must have all of the homework assignments related to that quiz completed.
  2. Students must complete a quiz correction form.
  3. Students must complete quiz retakes prior to the chapter test.
  • Students will be given the most recent quiz grade.

Chapter Assessments

For each chapter, specific learning targets will be clearly communicated as the goals of the chapter. At the end/or middle of each chapter, an assessment will be given on the learning targets. Students will be allowed to retake a test if they meet the following criteria:

  1. Students must have all of the homework assignments completed for that test prior to the original test.
  2. Students must complete a test correction form.
  3. Students must complete retake assignment(s).
  4. Students must complete a retake assessment within two weeks of it being handed back unless prior arrangements have been made.
  • Additional retakes on chapter tests may be offered at the discretion of the teacher.
  • Students will be given the most recent test grade.

Class Policies:

Food and Drink Policy

Food and drinks are allowed in the classroom if used responsibly. Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. If the classroom is not left clean, the entire class will lose the privilege of having food and drinks in the classroom. Students are not allowed to consume their lunch in the classroom.

Electronic Devices Policy

Students are not allowed to have electronic devices out during instruction time, group assignments, or during assessments. The first time an electronic device is out during a lesson the student will be given a warning, the second time the electronic device will be taken and kept with me until the end of the class period, and the third time the electronic device will be taken to the office and the student will be able to pick it up at the end of the day. If an electronic device is seen out during an assessment, the device will be turned in to the office, the student will receive a zero for the assessment, and a parent will be notified.

Cheating Policy

Any student caught cheating will be given a ZERO (F) on that assignment or assessment and a guardian will be notified. Students caught cheating may receive an office referral. It will be considered cheating if a student has an electronic device out during an assessment.

Tardy Policy

Students who are late are expected to go to their seat quickly and quietly without disturbing other students. In the event that the class is doing an activity, I will assist the student in getting started.

Bathroom Policy

Students are not allowed to leave the classroom the first or last ten minutes of class. When a student leaves the classroom they need to take the hall pass and fill out the sign-out sheet stating the date, their name, destination, time out, and then sign back in when they return. Only one student is allowed out of the class at a time so it is important that when a student leaves they return in a timely manner.

Academic Support: Extra help is available during cave period and during office hours. If students need to receive help after school or before school, they need to make an appointment with me so I can make sure that I am available.
