Job Summary

responsibilities / The post is based in Data Analytics and Statistics Division (DAS). The Division is a vibrant, fast-moving and high profile place to work and is at the heart of delivering critical evidence for the Department and other stakeholders. In DAS we collect, manage and publish timely, high-quality data on Housing, Planning and Local Government Finance in support of monitoring and delivering the Department’s policy priorities.
You will be part of the team that is responsible for the collection,analysis and publication of COntinuous REcording (CORE) data collection of social housing lettings and sales in England. CORE data provide critical evidence for central and local government and other users on the characteristics of social and affordable housing tenants and properties and are essential to support policy work on social housing allocations and evaluations of affordable housing. A key part of the role is engagement with a wide range of users and data providers to ensure the data collected and statistics produced maintainNational Statistics standards of quality and meet the user requirements for social housing data.
Main responsibilities for the CORE assistant statistician role are to:
  • Manage the CORE Data Collection and helpdesk support, including line-management of three EO grades and task management of other team members. Performance management of returns on the CORE website and assessment of queries received.
  • Production of a high profile, annual National Statistics statistical release. Provide timely analysis for ad hoc requests from policy teams and other government departments where required.
  • Communicate with customers, including data providers, policy teams and other analysts, to understand requirements. Lead on the annual data collection form review, collaborating with key stakeholders and representing the department at meetings with local authority representatives.
  • Drive forward and project manage the development and implementation of improvements on the CORE website, collaborating effectively with external contractors, IT colleagues, CORE team, Grade 7/6/DD to ensure functionalities are developed to meet the needs of users and the team.
  • Manage and oversee continual assessment of data quality; focusing on system validation and quality assurance of quarterly data in SPSS. Work with data collection team to make key decisions on quality as required.
  • Production of a range of datasets with different disclosure levels to meet a range of access needs

Descriptive Statistics

  • Work in a division responsible for collecting and publishing a wide range of data on housing, planning and local government finance;
  • Gain exposure to work of the division on developing innovative new tools and techniques for analysing data and sharing results and delivering Open Data
  • Develop digital skills in collaborating with service providers (IT) in order to provide a high quality service.
