Grace Lutheran Church

Council Meeting

May 14, 2013

At the May Council meeting, the normal business of the congregation was conducted and several discussions were held on specific issues facing Grace Lutheran. It was noted that the carpeting project was less than what was budgeted. Discussion about the roof was held and it was noted that if we do not do something this year, it will only get worse. The Trustees are looking to obtain bids for this job. Financially, we are doing well. A healing service will be planned for June 23.

In a discussion regarding where God is leading us, what Grace is being called to do, we were starting this discernment process earlier this year by looking at our strengths and weaknesses and see which we could focus upon. Discussion was held at this meeting about our support of the local food pantry and a desire to have more consistent support, both by volunteering and donations, was expressed. It was decided that we should have an effort during the month of June to raise enough donations so that the needs of the community can be met this summer. Local food pantries typically have an additional burden due to the schools being out of session and the children need lunches. Perhaps we could challenge the other local churches to collect donations as well.

Another discussion was centered on establishing a sexual abuse policy which is required by our insurance carrier. A policy had been developed and was adopted by the council. The policy is designed to meet two goals. This first is to have a procedure that will minimize the possibility of abuse from occurring. The second goal is to establish a procedure on how the congregation will react should sexual abuse occur. This policy can be modified when needed.

Volunteers Needed!

Do you have 90 minutes to spare during the week or the month? Mary & Martha’s Pantry is in need of volunteers to help distribute food to the people who need to use the pantry. Training will be provided. Won’t you consider giving back to the community in this way? Call Harry Baulisch 274-5218 Thank you for helping out our neighbors.

“If Quilts Could Talk”

By: Louise Maeschen and Roby Pattison

You are cordially invited to join us for an evening of food, fellowship and entertainment. “Let’s join Ruby and Louise as they give descriptive reports on the history of their quilt collection. Spanning the years from 1840-2013 they bring life to new quilts and the healing process to old ones as they are retired nurses, and textiles are their art form.” The event will be a salad supper, program and fellowship Thursday, June 27 at 6 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church, 915 Winifred St., Worthington, MN. Freewill donations will go to Shetek Lutheran Ministries Quilt Auction.
