Hymn: # 1MV* “Let Us Build a House

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,

a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.

Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions:

Refrain:

All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true, where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew. Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace;

here as one we claim the faith of Jesus: Refrain:

Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat;

a banquet hall on holy ground, where peace and justice meet.

Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space;

as we share in Christ the feast that frees us: Refrain:

Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone to heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known. Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face; let us bring an end to fear and danger: Refrain:

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace; let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: Refrain:

Opening Prayer: (in unison)

God of love and judgment, when the Egyptians enslaved the Hebrew people, your love set them free; when rulers oppress the poor and powerless, your judgment brings peace and justice back to the land.

Move us, O God, that we may fulfill the law of love and be a people who radiate your light. Touch our hearts, that we may come to love our neighbour as we come to love ourselves. Amen.

God Awaits Our Response

Presentation of our Gifts and Offering:

Stewardship means learning how to receive as well as how to give.

God’s gifts can come from the most unlikely places; when we recognize and accept them for what they are, everyone benefits.

Doxology: Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

Praise God, all creatures high and low;

Give thanks to God in love made known:

Creator, Word and Spirit, One.

Prayer of Dedication:

Good News and Prayer Time

The Fellowship of Prayer:

The Lord’s Prayer: (in unison)

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen

Hymn: #510 VU* “We Have This Ministry”

Commissioning and Benediction

Parting Song (Sung)* “Go Now In Peace”

Go now in peace. Never be afraid.

God will go with you each hour ev’ry day.

Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true.

Know He will guide you in all you do.

Go now in love, and show you believe.

Reach out to others so all the world can see.

God will be there watching from above.

Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.

Amen, Amen, Amen.

Guess Who Is Coming To Dinner? To allow us all to get to know Jeff Smith better, in a more intimate setting and in good United Church tradition, over food, we'd like to hold a series of dinner parties in September and October. If you are willing to host a few people and Jeff in your home for dinner or want to participate by bringing some food, please sign up at the back of the church. Hosts will be responsible for providing the main course and attendees will bring either an appetizer, salad or dessert. Jeff has some food sensitivities so a listing of these is available at the back. So join the fun and come to dinner.
