Town Hall Tidbits
Glen Ridge Public Health Reserve Corp
The Glen Ridge Health Department is in the process of recruiting service-minded citizens who can be trained to respond in any kind of public health emergency. These volunteers, who will constitute the Glen Ridge Public Health Reserve Corp, will supplement the existing public health workforce in the extreme event of a natural disaster or terrorist incident; but they will also fill the breach at annual immunization clinics. If you have time to give to this worthy endeavor, please call 973-748-8400 (extension 221) or visit their website at www.medicalreservecorps.gov for an application or more information.
Election Day
Do not forget that Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6th. Polling hours are from 6am to 8pm. If you are a registered voter and are uncertain about where to vote, check your sample ballot or call the Clerk's office at 973-748-8400 (ext. 220). Polling place information and current voters registration lists are also available in Room 102 of the Municipal Building. /
Thanksgiving Turkey Drive
The Borough and the Rotary Club will hold their jointly sponsored Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, on behalf of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, on Saturday, Nov. 17th, from 9 am until 2 pm, at the Train Station. At that time, residents are asked to drop off frozen turkeys, canned goods, or financial contributions that can be used to provide a Thanksgiving meal to those who might otherwise have to do without. Checks (earmarked "turkey drive") can also be sent to the Community Food Bank, 31 Evans Terminal Road, Hillside, N.J. 07205. For more information, please log onto www.njfoodbank.org.
Return To Sender
Hate those pesky Star Ledger Extras that are hurled willy-nilly on your driveway apron or front yard? Hate the menus and other circulars stuck in your front steps or bushes? The end is in sight. You can add your name to the town's "Do Not Deliver" list by calling 973-748-8400 (ext. 220) or by visiting www.glenridge.org/nonsolicitit.htm. The Borough has a new ordinance which specifies that unsolicited materials must be left within two feet of the mailbox; so if your name is on the list and you still get targeted, legal action is at hand!
