What is FamilySearch? / FamilySearch is a free website created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that allows anyone to search for records or historical information about their deceased ancestors.
What is Indexing? / Indexing is the volunteer program that adds records to the FamilySearch database. This database can then be searched for records or sources that can be linked to a deceased individual in the pedigrees.
What is FamilyTree? / FamilyTree is a free service that helps you to discover, organize, and record your genealogy online.
How can I view my pedigree? / Landscape, Portrait, Fan or Descendancy views are available and printable.
Can anyone change my pedigree? / FamilySearch is a collaborative forum. It is created with the idea that as new information becomes public, that could be added to create a complete history of an individual.
Can I edit or correct information? / All information can be changed or added to. While in the Details Page of an individual, click on the information to change, then choose Edit.
The change is not complete until the Save button is chosen.
What are sources? / Primary sources can be historical records that were created at the time of the event. Secondary sources can be created later by someone that was not there, such as a history. Sources can be attached to an individual directly from FamilySearch by using the Source Linker or by creating a source from outside the website. Sources are valuable because it where the information is found.
Can I add photos and stories in FamilyTree / Under the Memories Tab, photos, stories, and audio can be added to an individual or group of individuals. All memories are then public.
What type of Help is available? / Family Tree provides free tools you can use to preserve and share your family’s story. Those tools are tutorials, videos, and printable instructions available from the Get Help button on the top right of the home screen.
