WHEN YOUR PLAYER’S TEAM DOES NOT HAVE BALL

  1. Base - Recovery to READY Position - Criteria:
  • Set-up in ready stance between movements on and off the ball.
  1. Off-the-ball movements - COVER - Defence - Criteria:Seeing ball and player

Providing defensive help for team-mate making a play on the ball.

  • Providing defensive help for team-mate guarding ball handler.
  1. Guard or Mark - Criteria:
  • Defending high priority space around the basket against an opponent who may or may not have the ball.
  • Mark opponent as she attacks the basket.

Instructions

Study the criteria for when your player’s team has the ball. Select 1, 2 or 3 components. Watch your partner play and tick when they do an appropriate action or an inappropriate action for the component.

Write a note for why you judge action appropriate or not.

Give your partner feedback on how she played.

Then, re-rate your partner in a new game on the components.

WHEN YOUR PLAYER’S TEAM HAS BALL

  1. Off-the-ball movements – BASE and SUPPORT - Offence- Criteria
  • Player sets-up in BASE position, ready to receive the ball.
  • Player responds to other players effectively positioning herself to receive the ball in an area where she has the opportunity to score, dribble to space or pass to an open team-mate.
  1. Skill execution – Criteria:
  • Reception – Clear signal for ball then controls pass with ball set-up for dribble, pass or shot
  • Passing – Ball reaches target with appropriate weight
  • [Shooting – Ball shot on target when opportunity available]
  1. Decision Making - Criteria:
  • Player attempts to pass to an open team-mate.
  • Player attempts to shoot when appropriate.
