Current Educational Research in the UK

CERUK is a database of current or on-going research in education and related disciplines. It covers a wide range of studies including commissioned research and PhD theses, across all phases of education from early years to adults. The website enables you to search the CERUK database, and it is free and easy to use. It provides regular themed reports on particular areas of research, as well as exemplars which highlight individual studies.

Community Research & Development Information Service

This site offers a wide range of information on EU research and innovation development activities.

Deliberations

Deliberations is an international website on issues of learning and teaching for the HE community. It is based in the Centre for Academic Professional Development (CAPD) at London Metropolitan University.

Foundation Center

A very useful guide to writing research proposals. It has a US focus but much of the advice about constructing a bid is generic.

Research Councils UK

Each year the various Research Councils invest around £2.8 billion in research covering the full spectrum of academic disciplines from the medical and biological sciences to astronomy, physics, chemistry and engineering, social sciences, economics, and the arts and humanities. A useful guide to cross-Council activity and link to all the councils.

ResearchResearch

Very useful subscription service – you can subscribe as an individual but it is worth checking whether your institution has a site license. It provides email notification about funding opportunities for the UK. There is also news monitoring in Research Day: UK, and news in depth, comment and analysis in Research Fortnight.

Society for Research into Higher Education

SRHE is an independent society which aims to improve the quality of higher education through the encouragement of debate and publication on issues of policy, the organisation and management of higher education institutions, and on the curriculum, teaching and learning methods.

The UK Research Office

UKRO is the UK’s leading information and advice service on European Union funding for research and higher education. Its mission is to promote effective UK participation in EU-funded research programmes, higher education programmes, and other related activities by:

•supporting sponsors and subscribers through early insight and briefing on developments in European programmes and policies;

•disseminating timely and targeted information on EU funding opportunities;

•providing high quality advice, guidance and training on applying for and managing EU projects; and

•exchanging information between the UK research and higher education community, the Institutions of the European Union, and other countries participating in EU programmes.

Subscription is usually by organisation, and you should be able to check whether your organisation has subscribed.
