Good Morning! May 9th2017
T.W.I.K. Notes
STM Walk MORE will now be Thursday May 11th.As of right now our class is winning the donations and I would like t say thanks because we are super excited to see this! Please see the STM home page for details and a link that will allow families to donate through the website.
- Students should wear their walk shirt that will be coming home with them in the next couple of days. They should also wear weather appropriate bottoms and comfortable shoes. No sandals please!
- Right now the forecast is 72 degrees and an 80% chance of rain.
- Students will be provided with a lunch on Thursday. They will receive a hot dog, chips and fruit. If you child does not like hot dogs, please have them pack.
Graduation: We will have Kindergarten graduation on Wednesday May 24th at 6:30 PM in the gym. You will receive invitations with these details, but I wanted everyone to know now, so they can plan. Students will NOT return after graduation, so they do not come to school Thursday or Friday. Wednesday May 24th is the LAST day of school.
Redsfest will be on Wednesday May 10th
I believe today was one of the first years that all of the current Kindergarten stayed home…Pat on the back for great listeners! (May 8th will be Kindergarten Round up and the current Kindergarten will not come to school that day.)
Math
We are finishing section 7 on solid and flat shapes this week and should have our assessment on Tuesday.
Section 8 in Math was already completed at the beginning of the year because it covered ordinal numbers and talking about order.
Besides doing our Math series, we are began our Simple Solutions Book last week. This introduces a variety of material and helps the students get used to more of a typical math question.
Language Arts
This is our 3rd set of sight words. Most students are finished testing over this 3rd set but the ones who need to complete this set will be tested again at the beginning of next week or May 2nd, so please be sure they have studied them and are ready for the assessment. They will be assessed the same way we did the first 2 sets, in the flash card manor. I will include a check sheet in their homework folder, but you do not need to send it back with the homework.

Jolly Phonics
Now that we are a little more comfortable with what our letters look like, we will be starting The Jolly Phonics program to help the students with their reading and writing. The will be done along with the reading series and handwriting, so you should start seeing these letter sheets with their Friday Packets.
There is also a Jolly Phonics App that you could search on any of you devices to add. This would be a great way to practice the sounds we are doing in class.

Unit
Eggs, plants and Seeds
We are only doing this unit until the end of April and we will change to Healthy You. It has a big part of the Kindergarten Science curriculum, which is a plant and seeds, but we also learn about eggs at the same time because we have some fun “eggsperiments” to do.
I have gotten 3 dozen eggs and we used them before break. If you are interested in helping us out with our seeds and eggs, it would be wonderful if you sent in a dozen eggs and mark if they are raw or hard-boiled. We need both, but I will be happy to cook them if you send them in. Thanks!!!
I hope your child was able to tell you on Easter Sunday which eggs were hard-boiled and which were still raw!
Religion
Wow, Easter is over, but we are still going to talk about Easter and the Easter Season as we continue to talk about Eggs and new life!
