Good Morning Dr. Lowery.

I hope that you're having a wonderful summer. I recently got into contact with a PE at a search and placement firm looking to fill a position that requires the background of a recent graduate with MS/ME in Structural Engineering. Professor Lowery,

Howdy! My father forwarded an email to me, from you, requesting information from Former Students about opportunities for engineering grads from A&M.

I would like to share some information with you regarding this matter. I am an Account Manager for Talascend Engineering Resources in Houston. We specialize in placing engineers of all disciplines with some of the most well known companies in the world. Here in Houston, we focus mainly on oil & gas professionals while in our Detroit location, we focus on the automotive disciplines. Please feel free to share our website, with new graduates and Former Students. We post all of our jobs, all across the world, on our website and it is updated daily. I also post our more entry-level positions on the A&M Career Center portal, HireAggies. I also make sure to post all jobs, that are requested through my clients, on the TexAgs.com Job Network Forum. Any steps I can take to help out fellow Ags is taken!

Thanks and Gig 'Em!

Regards,

Account Development Coordinator

Dr. Lowery,

Our company, Geoscience Earth & Marine Services, Inc., is very much interested in hiring some civil engineers that are interested in working on oil and gas projects worldwide. Information on our company is available on our web site –

If you have students that would like to interview with us about prospective employment, please have them call Mr. Alan Young at 281-799-7190 or send me an email at . Our company currently has a number of employees that are Aggies, and we would like to hire more.

Thanks for your advising us of the opportunity.

Alan

Dear Dr. Lowery,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding opportunities for your civil engineering students! We are interested in providing internships and in interviewing recent graduates for potential employment.

I assist with recruiting for the firm and can help distribute any resumes you might have…even for past (newly unemployed) students looking for help from you for placement. Also, if you have recruiting events, we would like to consider attending them.

I am attaching a brochure that might be of interest to your students. Not only does it feature several young engineers in meaningful positions to which your students could relate, it discusses how the much-over-used-term “sustainability” is really mostly the exercise of good practices by the professional disciplines, and not so much about LEED points. (Though the USGBC movement has certainly raised awareness!)

(See

Please keep me in the loop of your recruiting needs. And if you like, from time to time I can send you information that might help your students get an inside peek at what it is like to work at firms like Dunaway.

Thank you!

Susie Peden

Chief Marketing Officer

Dunaway Associates

I just got a call from Clark Construction, one of the largest in the country, saying that while they were not actually beating the bushes for new engineers, they would seriously consider your resume through their website at

From Brandon Fick, who said the following helped him in a recent move:

Lee: I am a Civil Engineering graduate from Texas A&M. I am not practicing in the field of engineering these days, I have actually moved into human resources. I am close to our engineering hiring for the company. As far as CenterPoint Energy goes, candidates should check our website once a week. We post all of our positions below director on our website daily. Candidates can review postings, job descriptions and post for the position on the website. The location is .

Thanks for the request for employment opportunities. At Burns & McDonnell, we are actively seeking Engineers (Civil, Environmental, Structural, etc), as we have just been awarded some major power plant projects (and we are excited about them!). Burns and Mac is a great place to work, and we even have a few Aggies here in Kansas City. :) I have only been with the company for 7 months, but as a formerApplication Specialist at Intergraph, I have known them for years. When I needed to move to Kansas City, I knew who I wanted to work for!
I have recently married, but still check this email address with my former name. I guess I should get in the system and update my new status! Great to hear from you and please wish the graduates good luck! Let them know my name and contact information so I can help them, if possible.
Please search our website, for career opportunities. We have offices nationwide, but our HQ is in Kansas City, MO.

Hi Dr. Lowery,

I hope you are well. Although I no longer work for this company, I browsed around the City of Austinjob search engine and they have a position available for a Wastewater systems planning engineer. The website to apply for this position is:

Click on "Search Postings" on the left frame, write "068828" under the jobrequisition number, and leave all of the other values on default. They are looking for engineers with any type of experience.

Hope this helps at least a little bit. Best,

Dr. Lowery,

Glad to see that you are still an advocate for the student. That was something that I admired about you when I was a student at TAMU.

We just recently hired someone to fill a new position that we had, but I may have an additional opening in the near future. Feel free to post our contact information as a potential job opportunity for recent graduates as well as those that may have lost a job and are looking. I will keep their information on file and will give them a call should something come available.

Sounds great, but be prepared to just toss the last 100 when they overwhelm you. I will tell them that unless they put “TAMUCE Resume (Field) (Last Name)” in the subject line, it will go out with the spam, to help you control it.

Thanks,

I worked for AT&T and over the years they have generally hired several top engineering graduates every year from various universities. The best way to contact them is to go on the ATT.com web site and follow the directions.

Master’s degree/candidates, Structures Option only:

Dr. Lowery,

Thank you for the email. We have hired a couple of civil engineers this year in our land development group here in Dallas. We have looked at a few structural candidates, but have not yet made a hire. Projects have been slow to develop this year and those on the books have slowed down or been phased out. There appears to be good project potential, but it is slow to come.

I will forward your email to our Dallas office who may need additional civil engineers in the future. I will also forward this information to our Fort Worth office who may need a structural engineer in the future.

If you have any master’s candidates with a structural emphasis, I would like to evaluate and possibly interview. I feel we will make an additional hire this year in our transportation group, but I’m not sure with the exact timing at this point.

I look forward to hearing back from you,

Hi Dr. Lowery,

Gig'em. Thanks for your email. We are, in fact, hiring in this office here in San Antonio. We are an affiliate of the largest recruiting organization in the world, MRINetwork ( so we have our finger on the pulse of hiring across the USA.

I'd love to hire a few Aggies to work here in our recruiting office in San Antonio. Now you might ask, "David, what on God's earth does a BSCE have to do withbecoming a recruiter? They got their CE degree to be a headhunter?"

Well, if I told you that a new college BSCE from TAMU could make $50,000 first year, $80,000 2nd year, and $100,000+ year three out of college, that would be the hard facts that may make a CE take a second look.

In addition, we focus on placing engineers in companies, and it takes one to know one. We like to hire engineers who know how to recruit and communicate with other engineers.
