JOB TITLE: MOTOR VEHICLE TUTOR

DATE: MARCH 2014

JOB PURPOSE: TO DELIVER THE MOTOR VEHICLE CURRICULUM,

INCLUDING WORKSHOP DEMONSTRATIONS, THEORY

AND SUPERVISING THE LEARNING

REPORTS TO: VOCATIONAL TRAINING MANAGER

GENERAL RESPOSIBILITIES

  1. To train and engage students on a range of topics and tasks relevant to the awarding body as well as the curriculum area
  2. To direct students actively towards safe industrial working practices where appropriate
  3. To conduct demonstrations and supervise practical work to reinforce learning
  4. To assess students work
  5. Establish and maintain safe working practices and a clean and safe working environment in accordance with health and safety legislation
  6. To participate in the maintenance and promotion of close links with employers
  7. To produce Schemes of Work and Lesson plans and where appropriate course syllabus
  8. provide individual learning plans and provide support for learners in line with the requirements of the course
  9. Act as academic and pastoral tutor to students
  10. To promote equal opportunities within the area

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  1. Prepare learning materials appropriate to the curriculum
  2. Carry out workshop assessments
  3. To motivate and support students
  4. To deliver individual as well as group tutorials
  5. To evaluate students performance and progression
  6. To participate in the interviewing, advice and guidance, and enrolling of students
  7. Maintain a designated working area, ensuring Health and Safety and COSHH regulations are followed in conjunction with all Health and Safety policies
  8. Control the workshop, tools and equipment as required to meet education and training needs
  9. To carry out work placement assessments
  10. To manage learning programmes
  11. To work with students in a flexible learning environment
  12. To develop professional skills through appropriate activities including attendance at relevant training events

A / A Certificate in Education, PGCE or an appropriate Teaching Qualification. Assessor Awards / E
B / A Specialist Subject Qualification to level 3 (Motor Vehicle) / E

A / Evidence of successful teaching and industry experience with in the appropriate context / E
B / Experience of assessing students / E
3 / ABILITIES/SKILLS
A / Teaching skills to work successfully with students of varied ages, backgrounds and abilities including evidence of suitability to work with children and vulnerable adults / I
B / Ability to teach in the subject areas covered by the post / E
C / Ability to use ICT/e-learning successfully to deliver a high quality teaching and learning experience / I
D / A current knowledge of the procedure and techniques used in Motor Vehicle Engineering / E
