Georgia Military College awards three degrees: the Associate in Arts, the Associate in Science and the Associate in Applied Science, with concentrations in multiple disciplines. GMC is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate Degrees. Military classes are only available in Milledgeville.

Fee Schedule

Students shall be liable for the tuition and fees for the courses in which they register. Web registration generates a bill thatmust either be paid or have funding in placeprior to the first day of the quarter.

Tuition / $105.00 per quarter hour for all students– Online Classes $130.00 per quarter hour
Application / $35.00 one-time fee, nonrefundable (all new students applying for admission must pay their application fee prior to taking the placement exam)
Book Fee / $10.00 per quarter hour. Online students must purchase their own books
Student Activity Fee / $3.00 per quarter hour (active duty military exempt)
Computer Lab Fee / $25.00 per CIS 200 computer course; $40.00 for upper division computer courses.
HPE Activity Fee / $50.00 – per hpe course
PED Activity Fee / $15.00 – per ped course
Science Lab Fee / $45.00 per natural science lab course
Technology Fee / $4.50 per quarter hour (active duty military exempt) – Online Classes $10.00 per qh
WEPA Printing / $.09 per black/white copy; $.30 per color copy; First $2.00 per quarter hour FREE
Late Registration / $25.00 per term (active duty military exempt)
Add/Drop Fee / $15.00 per registration change
Withdrawal Fee / $15.00 per course. Must be processed through the business office.
Phi Theta Kappa Fee / $68.00 – Members only - One-time induction fee
Transcript Fee / $3.00 - for official transcripts
DiplomaFee / $40.00 – one time graduation application fee – per degree

Registration and Payment Policies

In order to remain in classes, all financial obligations must be met. Please refer to the calendar on the front page for payment due dates.

  • If you use financial aid, you must have financial aid awarded or pending with a loan in place.
  • If you use loans, the Master Promissory Note from the lender must be signed and a disbursement date must be issued.
  • If you use VA benefits other than Chapter 33, you must use alternate means to pay all tuition and fees and be reimbursed by the VA.
  • If you use TA or sponsored billing, all paperwork must be in the system and current.
  • If you have a scholarship, all documentation must be in the system.
  • All transcripts must be received in a timely manner.
  • You will be required to show proof of ordered transcripts or pay your fees by alternate methods if a National Student Loan Database Systems check finds a missing transcript.

Please complete your 2010-2011 FAFSA now so that it can be processed. Even if you have not qualified for aid previously, it is recommended you complete one as the educational policies change.

Textbook Information - **See calendar on page one as dates may vary due to academic schedule.

  • Textbook fees are included in the tuition. Refer to fee schedule above for current charges.
  • All students are expected to have their textbooks on the first day of class.
  • Textbook return schedule**Textbooks are due:
  • Prior to a student’s withdrawal from class.
  • Immediately after an instructor withdraws a student for non-attendance.
  • After Term Ends– Refer to the calendar on page 1 for due dates
  • Books returned on time - No additional fees
  • Books returned late - Fee assessed - $25.00 per book
  • Books unreturned - Full replacement cost assessed
  • Students will be unable to check out books for the new term until all books are returned and/or any assessed fees are paid.
  • The following classes have additional required books that may be purchased at the Bookstore.

Financial Assistance– Please check with our Financial Aid Office for details.

  • Students receiving any kind of financial aid must attend classes or their financial aid may be withdrawn.
  • Students who register for but do not attend their weekend classes are in jeopardy of losing their financial aid.
  • Students withdrawing from class(es)are responsible for their account balances which are due and payable immediately.

GMC Community College offers the following aid to those who qualify:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG)
  • Georgia HOPE Scholarship
  • Student loans and work study – based on demonstrated need

Before aid can be applied to a student account, the student must:

  • Have all transcripts fully processed.
  • Clear provisional status by completing all required paperwork.
  • Any Student enrolled under provisional status will not be awarded financial aid.
  • Provisional students must pay all tuition and fees up front.

Federal Pell Grant is financial assistance based upon demonstrated financial need.

  • Funding begins each Fall 1 and will last four of the five quarters.
  • Students must annually submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for the Federal Pell Grant.
  • The FAFSA school code, 001571, must be used for our school to receive your information.

Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG) will pay a portion of tuition costs for qualified legal residents of Georgia.

  • Students must enroll for at least twelve-quarter hours.
  • You may apply for GTEG online at

HOPE Scholarship is offered by the State of Georgia to students who maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

  • HOPE pays for tuition and mandatory fees, less GTEG. No books or lab fees.

Student loans and Work Study are also available based on documented need.

  • Students must annually submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for work study, and student loans.
  • The FAFSA school code, 001571, must be used for our school to receive your information.

Army Tuition Assistance (TA) pays 100% of tuition for eligible military members.

  • active army and army reserve members must have access to in order to apply for tuition assistance (TA). access is given through your education office.
  • Guard members get their TA by applying with their Unit Training officer, assigned education office or ARNG Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) website.
  • approved TA forms are required for registration.

Veterans Administration (VA) GI Bill

  • certificate of eligibility letter from the Veterans Administration is required if using (VA) educational benefits for the first time. apply for va benefits online at.

Testing Information

  • Students must complete all admissions paperwork, pay a $35.00 application fee, and sign up for a testing date and time prior to the desired testing time.

Printing on Campus

  • GMC Fairburn utilizes the WEPA system for student printing. Registered students have an account and money is placed on that account based on the number of credit hours x $2.00. funds are generated from the technology fee. If necessary the student may add additional funds by using a credit card or may purchase WEPA print cards in the bookstore. See bookstore for details. Active duty Military students are not charged a technology fee. These students will need to add money to their account. Instructions on how to use the WEPA system are located at each of the four kiosks on campus located at FBN2 Main Floor; Writing Center ( FBN3-209C); and two in Study Area (FBN2-201 next to library.

Class Enrollment

Each course is carefully monitored to ensure sufficient enrollment.

  • Students will be notified at least 48 hours prior to the start of class should low enrollment cause a class to be cancelled.
  • students will be given the opportunityto transfer to another class.

Drop/Add and Withdrawal Policy

Financial aid may be affected if a student drops below the number of quarter hours needed to maintain full-time status.

drop/Add

students may drop or add courses, without academic penalty, during the drop/add period only.*

  • A $15.00 fee will be assessed for each class added or dropped.
  • Students will not be allowed to drop or add any classes (including weekend classes) after drop/add.

Withdrawal - Refer to calendar on page one for dates.

Students may withdraw from classes during the regular term at any time through Wednesday of week seven.*

  • Students will receive a grade of W if:
  • the student withdraws prior to midterm
  • the student withdraws after midterm with a passing grade
  • Students will receive a grade of WF if:
  • The student withdraws from class after midterm with a failing grade
  • The instructor withdraws the student for non attendance
  • The instructor withdraws the student for excessive absences
  • 6-hour class – Student may not miss more than 6 hours
  • 5-hour class – Student may not miss more than 5 hours
  • 3-hour class – Student may not miss more than 3 hours
  • 2-hour class – Student may not miss more than 2 hours

Students should consult and follow closely the attendance policy from the course syllabus for each class in which they are enrolled.

Application for Degree

All candidates applying for a degree must file a formal application at least one quarter prior to the quarter the student is expected to graduate.All applications are processed in Milledgeville. Students will be notified when their diplomas arrive at GMC Fairburn.

Students must:

  • Complete their portion of the Application for Degree form – forms in business office.
  • Meet with your advisor for the following:
  • obtain degree audit
  • review records to determine any remaining requirements prior to final quarter registration
  • ensure the advisor completes advisor/evaluator portion of form.
  • Complete online student graduation survey, print out receipt, and return to business office with completed application.
  • Pay the $40.00 graduation fee.

Graduation

Commencement exercises are held each May.

  • Dates and deadlines are posted prior to that ceremony.
  • Refer to the calendar on page one for date.

*NOTE:

Students have until the end of the published drop/add period to make changes to their registration, without academic or financial aid penalty.

Once you register for classes, unless you adjust your registration during the published drop/add period, you are responsible for the cost of the classes for which you registered. Additionally, in accordance with federal rules that GMC is required to enforce, you must meet attendance requirements to maintain your eligibility for federal financial aid.
