We made signs that say “Harvest of the Month”; we laminated them and attached them to annler so that they can be moved around each month to the different produce. The store managers have a schedule so that they can follow along. Yeah!

Walk ability Audit – Builders, developers, politicians, were invited and to hear all the ideas we were having in common was fun. Also, it was an eye opener for some of us to see the conditions of some neighborhoods.

I want to start mentioning that, though it was not a community act SPARK health and fitness workshop was the best. One of the community activity that I have been involved in is turn off TV wee, where I designed activity logos for kids to track their intake of fruits, vegetables, water and physical activities, parents signed the forms and encouraged the kids.

Salad Bar events in low income elementary schools- included outdoor education on nutrition local farming, healthy snacks, and physical activity – then the students eat a salad bar lunch. It is very fun!

Our special event took place in the spring. Farm fest in Visalia, downtown Main Street. What made this event successful was the collaboration with the Visalia Chamber of Commerce: Agriculture Committee and Tulare County Office of Education to bring in Community farmers, petting zoo, fresh local produce, large farm equipment, 4H, FFA

Dairymen, local merchants, Farmer’s Market style taste testing and many other community partners. There were approximately 6,000 people in attendance over the course of the one day event.

Head Start has been in start up this past year, but we will be having “planning health meal committee” (cooking class using locally grown fruits & vegs) also there will be 5 Head Start gardens with plans on 1 community garden in Atwater. Eventually, our goal is all Head Starts will have fruit & Vegs gardens.
