The Glenn AndersonMemorial Scholarship Fund was established by the friends of Glenn Andersonand the faculty and staff of Kate Collins Middle School in the spring of 2008. The first scholarship was awarded in May 2009. The Glenn Anderson Memorial Scholarship Committee shall have full discretion and authority for administering the scholarship fund.
Purpose of the Fund
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship annually to a student who attended Kate Collins Middle School, is enrolled in advanced mathematics at Waynesboro High School, and is/ or has been a member of the WHS varsity or JV soccer team. The student must have enrolled in afour or five year college or university. Mr. Anderson’s philosophy was to see the potential in students and to encourage them. That is a focus for this scholarship.
Eligibility
Recipients shall be graduating Waynesboro High School seniors who meet the following criteria:
• Financial need
• Academic scholarship (provide a transcript, will look at overall performance in all classes,
falls under “academic performance” on the score page)
• Good character
• Enrollment at Kate Collins Middle School for a minimum of two years
• Member of WHS varsity or JV soccer team for a minimum of 1 year (under Resume on
score page)
• Completion of Algebra II and or Trigonometry or higher Mathematics courses earning a minimum of B (3.0 on 4.0 scale). (included under “academic performance” on the score page)
• Enrolled in a four or five year college or university (included under “resume” on the score page)
Selection Process
A committee of four will be responsible for selecting the recipient based on the criteria stated above. Members of the selection committee shall include one Kate Collins administrator, one Kate Collins guidance counselor, one Kate Collins classroom teacher, and Mrs. Kathy Anderson (or family designee). Applications for the scholarship will originate from the Counseling Office at Waynesboro High School. Applications must be submitted to the WHS Counseling Office on or before May 6, 2016. The Glenn Anderson Memorial Scholarship Committee shall review applications and select the recipient. The monetary award will be mailed directly to the recipient’s college or university, unless such payment will disqualify the recipient from other scholarships that he or she would receive. In this case, the recipient will be paid directly. The recipient shall be identified and recognized publicly at an appropriate awards assembly at Waynesboro High School.
