Discovering the city where you live can be a lot of fun!There are many things to see and do in our city.You will need to know how to understand directions in order to find these special places.Today we are going to learn how to give directions and locate places on the city map.
Giving Directions – Where do you live?
Using another piece of paper write out directionsgetting from our meeting place to your home. An example is below:
I live near ______
(OR)I live on the north side of town.
(OR) I live 10 minutes south of downtown.
Fromthe place where we are meeting, take ______
road name direction (north, east, etc.)
to ______. Turn ______at ______.
exit or street name direction (left, right) street name

- Where your teacher lives
- Your favorite restaurant
- The zoo
- The church where you attend
- Your favorite park
- Look at your city’s Visitor Guide.
- Find the Table of Contents.
- Look at the Calendar of Events. What is going on this month?
- What activities would like to do? What activities have you done? What would you recommend to others?
- What restaurants do you enjoy? Where do you enjoy shopping?
Asking for Directions:
- Where is (the) . . . ?
- How do you get to (the) . . . (from here)?
- How do I get to (the) . . . ?
- Can you tell me how to get to (the) . . . ?
- Can you give me directions to (the) . . . ?
- What's the best way to get to (the) . . . ?

4. How do you get to the bank? / Yes. There's one right across the street.

It's on the corner of Woodmen and Academy. Next to Hobby Lobby.
Go straight down this street for two blocks. Turn left when you get to Maple Street. Stay on Maple for half a block. It's on the left hand side.
