“Do not worry about your difficulties in mathematics, I assure you that mine are greater.” – Albert Einstein

“I came to the…open gate of mathematics. From there, well trodden paths lead in every direction, and since then I have often spent time there. Sometimes I think…I have trodden all the paths…and I suddenly discover a new path and experience fresh delights.” – M.C. Escher

“Give me a place to stand on, and I can move the earth.” – Archimedes

West Mecklenburg strives for success and high expectations for all of its students. In order to be successful in my class, the following is required of students: 1) Students are expected to be in class everyday. 2) Students are expected to be prompt to class. 3) Students are expected to behave accordingly in class. Discipline measures will be in place by teachers and administrators. All CMS policies and West Mecklenburg High School policies will be enforced. Please read the CMS Rights and Responsibilities. 4) Students are expected to bring required materials to class: pencils, pens, paper, notebook, and textbook. 5) Students are expected to respect teachers and staff. 6) Students are expected to participate in class at all times. 7) Students are expected to stay awake in class.

Algebra 2 is designed to extend students’ algebraic knowledge and skills. Students are encouraged to solve problems using a variety of methods to foster a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Glencoe Algebra II Practice Workbook

1) 3-ring binder with pockets and dividers (5 sections: warm-ups, notes, classwork, homework, and writing prompts); 2) Calculator (TI-83); 3) Batteries (4-AAA); 4) Loose-leaf paper; 5) Pencils (#2); 6) Pens (black or blue) for grading papers in class or taking notes; 7) Highlighters

Classwork Expectations

1)  Students are expected to put first and last name, date, and page number if applicable on all papers.

2)  All work should be attempted to get full credit. All work must be shown.

3)  All work is to be done in pencil.

Student Responsibilities

1)  Always have textbook, notebook, homework, and a pencil with you when you come to class.

2)  Complete classwork and homework during assigned times.

3)  The textbook will be used as a supplementary resource. Therefore, it is essential that students maintain a thorough notebook on day-to-day class activities and concepts.

4)  You are expected to do your own work on homework, classwork, and tests. Talking during a test or while others are testing will not be permitted.

Grading System

All work will be graded on the following grading scale:

Friendly Reminders

1)  Starting class on time is very beneficial. When you are behind, it hinders you and the class from reaching goals. Keep up with the class!

2)  Attendance is mandatory in order to receive credit for the course. Excused absences are only accepted for missed assignments with a written excuse. Excuses must be brought back the day the student returns

3)  Students are to actively participate and work cooperatively with the teacher and other students

4)  EOC Test will be given in the spring of 2006. I expect through elaborate lesson plans and parent contact, our goals will be met.

5)  Tutorials will be offered and students are expected to take advantage of afterschool tutorials. Days and times will be announced at a later date

6)  Parent conferences may be scheduled from 8:55 - 10:20 AM on A Days and afterschool from 2:20 – 3:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
