February 2, 2008 Community Advisory Council (CAC) and Special Community Meeting Notes

CAC Member attendance: Joseph Murray, Ted Muralt, Patti Adler, Commissioner Mike Doherty and Donalyn Olson.

Guest attendance: Linda Rotmark (EDC) and Sasha Sicks

Audience:Kathleen Haney, Carol Schultz, Bill Drath, Sandy Tsiang, Herb Olsen, Marlyn Olsen, Brian Adler and Karen Brunson.

Chair Joe Murray convened the meeting at 10 am, with the introduction of the newly selected project coordinator for the USDA/EDC Grant, Sasha Sicks. Joe said that Sasha was hired on February 1, and passed around a couple copies of the contract for review. The contract indicates that the Chair of the CAC (Joe Murray) and the president of the Chamber (Brian Adler) were the supervisors and the Community Action Team (CAT) would be the support team for Sasha. Linda Rotmark indicated that the EDC was not funding the position, but was the organization dispensing the funds.

After a discussion from various members of the audience, Sasha will be given support/guidance from the community to serve as a liaison with existing community groups to identify, prioritize and accomplish projects aimed at diversifying and promoting economic development, tourism, cultural heritage and community/youth activities.

Linda Rotmark indicated that the Olson’s CTED grant effort (handled by EDC and Cascade Land Conservancy) could overlap and support Sasha’s effort to some extent.

Several names were discussed about serving on the CAT to support and guide Sasha in her endeavors. The intent was to get persons from each civic/professional group as one of the team members. Karen Brunson said that she could find a representative from the prison if necessary, however, it was decided that Patti Adler and Bill Drath, who serve on the prison advisory council, could represent that entity. Another suggestion was to get Mike Dukes (president of the Lions and School district employee) on the team, who would represent the School district and the Lions club. A comment was made that Mike Dukes was not in attendance and had not shown any previous interest in the process and/or meetings, so the nomination was dropped. The initial Members of the Community Action Team (CAT) were selected as follows:

1. Kathleen Haney (West End Youth & Seniors)

2. Sandy Tsiang (Tourism Committee Chair and Bed and breakfast owner)

3. Patti Adler (Prison Advisory Council - Sewer Advisory Council - CAC - Sheriffs Advisory Council)

4. Bill Drath (State Parks Ranger and Prison Advisory Council)

5. Brian Adler (Chamber President and Prison employee)

There was a discussion about when to hold the next Grant Community meeting, either March 1 or March 8th. Mike Doherty stated that if he could get other county officials interested, and freed up, it would be a good time to have the annual County government Status review for the local area as part of the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned about Noon.

Respectfully,

Ted Muralt Secretary.
