Gingerbread Homes for the Holidays Contest Winners Announced
DAYTON, Nov. 29, 2011 — Cookie architecture was at its finest during the seventh annual Gingerbread Homes for the Holidays contest held Friday, Nov. 25. Competition winners and all other entries were displayed for public viewing at the Old Court House during the Grande Illumination and Dayton Children’s Parade Spectacular in Lights held downtown that Friday night.
Judges selected first place winners in four categories from among the 27 entries. In addition, judges selected best of show winners in the amateur and professional categories, each of whom received a $500 cash prize. The 2011 winners are:
Professional Best in Show Donna Brinson-Alexander, Brookville
Amateur Best in Show Sharon Ochs, Centerville
Professional Marcella Alphabet, Huber Heights
Adult Casie Margioras, Beavercreek
Teen Students from the Northridge High School class of Jackie Creamer, Dayton
Kid Charlie and Anastasia Shivers, Dayton
Also this year, Mary Yeagle of Huber Heights displayed a replica of a gingerbread home she made for a holiday episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition that will air sometime in December. Yeagle was selected to make her gingerbread home for the show after winning the amateur division in last year’s gingerbread contest.
