Curriculum Unit (Yeung Ting Pong, Ronnie)
School:Carmel Bunnan Tong Memorial Secondary SchoolYear Level: F.3
Teacher: Yeung Ting Pong, Ronnie / Year: 14 years of age
Term: 2
Time Frame: 1 period/1 hour / Topic / Theme:
Plane Geometry / Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to :
- distinguish clearly all sorts of quadrilaterals, e.g. trapeziums, parallelograms, rhombuses, rectangles, squares, etc.
- understand the features of any kind of special quadrilaterals
- Synthesize their geometrical characteristics & demonstrate them by means of graphic organizers, e.g. Venn Diagram

Gifted Student(s)
A. Content
Complexity is broken down into simplicity for instance simple presentation is to be shown with a huge box of features of quadrilaterals / Values and Attitudes:
- Responsibility
- Open-mindedness
- Caring
- Respect for others
- Perseverance
- National identity
- Commitment ...
Generic Skills
- Communication
- Critical thinking
- Creativity
- Collaboration
- Information technology
- Numeracy
- Problem - solving
- Self - management
- Study
Students are invited to
- Draw the above quadrilaterals out on board or in their computers with their corresponding features listed onto the pictures
- Cross-check with their neighbours by using drawing devices, e.g. protractors, set-squares
- Justify with computer drawing softwares
Inquiry based : students have to justify by themselves or by their neighbours in order to put different quadrilaterals shell by shell for presenting them in a single coherent picture
Self – selected : they make good choices from various graphic organizers to illustrate the different conditions built upon various quadrilaterals in relation to their complexity / Higher Order Thinking Strategies

Key Tasks
- Moral and civic education
- Reading to learn
- Project learning
- IT for interactive learning
Correct features shown explicitly shell by shell (Venn Diagram )
Variety : students do their presentations in a variety of graphic organizers
Transformation : textbook knowledge is transformed or summarized by mind-map

Students are asked to finish the following matchings :
Quadrilaterals Features
․opp. sides equal
- trapeziums ․․opp. sides //
- parallelograms․․2 sides equal
- rhombuses ․․a pair of opp. sides //
- rectangles ․․all angles at 90
