Gift of tongues and interpretation of tongues.
I do not know why it is so hard to understand this simple Gift from the Holy Spirit!
Let me try to explain it to you in simple English!
First we have to go back to Genesis, after Noah’s flood they were commanded to split up and replenish the whole Earth.
Along comes Nimrod, and says Let us build a city least we be scattered abroad.
So God now sees what is about to happen, so He splits them up, and confuses their language, thus we have the birth of all the languages right here in Genesis. God now also selects Hebrew as His official language to deal with men.
Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Well after a while He saw that the Children of Israel did not do what God had commended them to do which was to preach the 1 TRUE UNIFIED GOD!
So after Jesus Christ defeated Satan at the cross He gave His Disciples the COMMANDEMENT TO GO OUT AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE IN THE WHOLE WORLD!
Nice Jesus! Very Nice! But how are we to do that since we only speak Hebrew?
Along comes the command to stay put until the Spirit gives them the right tools!
An so here come the gifts of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.
Nothing mystical about it! They were each given the ability to speak in other languages. The main goal was now to EDUCATE THE WORLD ABOUT JESUS CHRIST, SO THAT DOES WHO BELIEVED IN THE GOSPEL WOULD BE SAVED, salvation was no longer just for the Jews, but for BOTH JEWS AND GENTILES.
Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
Act 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
Act 2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
Act 2:9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
Act 2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
Act 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
Now one final word, there are those that use 1 verse in scripture to say otherwise, but once again they do not know the word of God. They use the verse below.
Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Don’t forget we are still human and like Paul clearly states “We do not know what we should actually be praying for.” So the Holy Spirit which is in 100% in union with the Father and the Son INTERCEDES for our STUPIDITY, OK CALL IT OUR DIVINE IGNORANCE.
The verse below clearly states that fact.
Rom 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Remember Jesus said He would send ANOTHER COMFORTOR. We ourselves do not have the FULL UNDERSTANDING OF GOD’S MIND RIGHT NOW, THAT COMES AT DEATH OR THE RAPTURE FOR CHISTIANS.
1Co 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
