‘GETTING TO KNOW YOUR FRIENDS’

INTRODUCTION

Pupils are keen to know how their peers in other countries live, what they are interested in, how they spend their free time, what music they listen to. They want to get to know interesting places, traditions and customs of other countries.

The programme is aimed at those people who not only want to develop their knowledge of the English language, but who also want to enhance their knowledge about the neighbouring country. This programme is also a chance to teach tolerance and open the young people’s eyes to the world. Thanks to it, pupils will not only broaden their horizons, but they will gain this knowledge in an attractive and interesting way. Thanks to the programme, pupils will learn about the history, culture and regional cuisine of Lithuania, which will make it possible for pupils to prepare an electronic cookbook, atravel guidetoLithuania in English, a show, a competition on the knowledge about Lithuaniaas well as to organize a trip around‘Little Lithuania’.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The programme is designed for primary school. It will be realized during classes with pupils in years 4 to 6 who want to develop their abilities and skills connected with the knowledge of the English language and who are interested in Lithuanian culture and tradition.

Proposed assignment of hours:

It is planned to conduct 100 hours of classes in 10 groups, with 10 pupils in each group.

TEACHING AND EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

TEACHING OBJECTIVES

  • To develop in pupils an attitude of curiosity, openness to the world, tolerance towards other cultures, to broaden experience by learning English and by contacts with Lithuanian culture.
  • To introduce culture issues connected with Lithuania.
  • To learn about customs, traditions and different aspects of everyday life in Lithuania.
  • To learn about the history and geography of Lithuania.
  • To develop the ability to use authentic materials while doing projects: an electronic cookbook, a presentation and a travel guide.
  • To develop the ability to use the Internet as a source of information.
  • To get in touch with pupils from Lithuania, from the regions of Trakai and Alytus.

1. Organizational class. Activities and games which bring the group together. Expressing emotions through gestures, facial expressions and movement. Diction exercises.

2. Lithuanian literature – especially fairy tales, children and youth literature.

3. Getting familiar with the text chosen for adaptation. Concepts for the stage adaptation. Division of roles.

4. The read-through rehearsal of the performance.

5. Preparing the sound.

6. Blocking rehearsal.

7. Designing costumes, props and decorations.

8. Preparing/making the aids which have been designed.

9. Blocking rehearsal.

10. Dress rehearsal.
